24.01.2022 We can stop Adani's insurers from supporting this climate wrecking mine

23.01.2022 Former Mackay MLA Tim Mulherin died on Sunday night, aged 63. Tim was in good spirits up until his death, planning to take part in work this week. Tim represented Mackay in the Goss, Beattie and Bligh governments. He also became Primary Industries minister for several terms. When the ALP lost in a landslide Tim was elected as the Deputy Opposition Leader. He held that position until he resigned just before the election of the Palaszczuk government. One of Tim's first acts a...s Member for Mackay was to establish an enquiry to find alternatives to the permanent closure of the floodgates on Sandfly Creek, a wetland close to the centre of our city. The enquiry found that the solution that MCG had been calling for was the best option. Today Sandfly Creek continues to flourish as an important habitat for birds and marine life. While we may have had our fair share of run-ins with Tim over the years, he wasn’t one to bear a grudge. He maintained good relationships with people across the political and social spectrum. Tim's style was a welcome change for local politics during the two decades he spent representing the city in the Queensland Parliament. He was willing to offer advice and mentorship to people in the environmental movement as much as people within the party he represented. A card will be available at the Environment Centre until Monday to allow you to send your condolences to his family as a member of the Mackay Conservation Group. Truely missed. Vale Tim. Rest In Peace.

20.01.2022 Today, the Queensland government has finalised a secret coal royalty deal with Adani, first offered in May 2017. It comes as the Queensland Resources Council has been aggressively campaigning for a freeze on royalties ahead of the 31 October election. https://www.theguardian.com//queensland-strikes-royalties-... Estimates of the subsidy to defer Adani’s royalties range from $253 million to over $700 million. Research by The Australia Institute shows Adani will effectively get 17% of their coal for free and that a large majority of Queenslanders believe royalty rates should be increased. It's clear that the Queensland Government isn't going to #StopAdani so we will have to. 17.01.2022 How about this frog? She swallows her eggs then they grow inside her stomach. The Northern Gastric Brooding Frog was discovered in January 1984. By March 1985 it was believed to be extinct. Next year James Cook University's Conrad Hoskin will lead an expedition to the Urannah Creek, west of Mackay to find out whether the frog has been able to survive in this isolated location. ... In this free presentation, he will explain why researchers think the frog may be found at Urannah Creek and how they will use modern techniques to try to locate it. 11.01.2022 Today Adani rebranded its mining operations as Bravus mining. Adani’s rebrand is an own-goal, exposing how damaging its toxic brand has become after years of breaking environmental laws, trashing the rights of Traditional Owners, threatening the Great Barrier Reef and sucking precious Queensland water for their climate-wrecking coal mine. Adani is at pains to stress this rebrand is not because of their toxic brand, but their long list of environmental and human rights abuses means their brand is kryptonite.

07.01.2022 Join us for the #StopAdani Phone Jam calling party mackayconservationgroup.org.au/stop_adani_phone_jam If we make enough calls together, Adani could soon have no insurance for their destructive coal project. Only 9 out of dozens of Lloyd’s insurers are still at risk of insuring Adani. To persuade all 9 to rule out Adani, we’ll be calling each insurer relentlessly, one-by-one and day-by-day, from now until the end of October! ... Join us at the Environment Centre to call a potential Adani insurer asking them to rule out insurance for Adani’s coal project? When you book we will send the phone number for the "insurer of the day", talking points, and everything you need to make your call. Together, we’ve already sent thousands of emails. But with Adani racing to lock in insurance policies, we need to up the ante and demand responses, in real time, from real people, over the phone. This phone jam roster is set up so that a different insurer will get called every day from now until the end of October!

06.01.2022 BREAKING: We, the Wangan and Jagalingou tribal warriors have re-established control of access to our Country leading to the Adani Carmichael Coal Mine site to e...nforce protection of our home lands. We are #StandingOurGround to evict Adani and end the desecration of our homelands. We will remain on country to enforce the eviction notice that we issued to Adani last week. Soon, Adani will start draining the water table and digging their mine, causing irreversible damage to our lands, our sites and our sacred Doongmabulla Springs. They have given us no choice but to take urgent action to protect water, defend our Country and maintain our right to preserve and practice our culture. We have been fighting against Adani’s Carmichael project for 10 years, it is our duty to continue. We demand Adani Australia abandon their Carmichael mine project immediately. #StandingOurGround #EvictAdani

06.01.2022 Rebranding doesn't change anything

05.01.2022 Adani is a serial offender that has repeatedly broken Australian law - putting water, wildlife and the Reef at risk. The mining giant has faced court for polluting the Reef and fines for spilling coal sludge into sensitive wetlands. They’ve received a criminal conviction for misleading the QLD government about land clearing at their mine site and have been charged $106M for ripping off customers at their Abbot Point coal port and lying about it in court. Adani’s latest environmental breach is further proof that Adani can’t be trusted to obey the law or protect the environment.

04.01.2022 The gas led recovery Scott Morrison has proposed will mean more of this and more of many other types of destruction.
