25.01.2022 Year 10 HPE students enjoyed an instructive morning of lawn bowls today. Thanks to Mackay Northern Beaches Bowls Club and their members for supporting our students with these classes.

21.01.2022 Zombie Apocalypse Preparation - 8G 8G had an unusual lesson during OPW today. Students worked in groups to identify how they would prepare if they only had 4 hours until the Zombies arrived. Students worked as a group to identify what the most important objects would be for them, what each person’s strengths where and how they could support each other, after the activity students shared their responses with the class. ... This activity allowed them to better understand how to be resilient and work as a team in a tough situation. Thanks to Mackay Disaster Management Recovery team for coming to the school and running this activity, and also to Miss Lade for facilitating it.

20.01.2022 This term a number of students participated in the Mackay Regional Languages Speech Competition. Students submitted videos of their speeches and competed against a number of other schools in the area. Our students did incredibly well, submitted some great entries and deserve a big congratulations for their efforts. 19.01.2022 Our plans may have changed, but Year 12 Formal is still going ahead - with some amazing changes to make the night extra special! Date - Saturday 17th October Venue - Mackay Northern Beaches SHS Arrivals at 5 p.m.... Tickets are available from finance for $110. Current restrictions mean that this year's Formal will be closed, with just staff and students attending. However, families will still be able to watch their students arriving at Formal. We are excited to be celebrating with our deserved Year 12 students.

17.01.2022 Year 11 Cert III Aviation have recently been introduced to industry drone mapping. Students used specialised mapping software to execute an autonomous flight plan, which captured mapping data of our school oval. This data was used to create an orthomosaic and 3D digital surface model for further analysis. Students will continue to explore drone mapping in Year 12, with some exciting field trips planned to help with this.

15.01.2022 P&C News We are so fortunate as a school to have some wonderful teachers who are willing to go the extra mile for our students. The P&C are happy to announce more support for school activities run by our amazing staff. Stingers this is a group who meet Thursday mornings for a fun workout.... P&C are donating $2500 for dumbbells and resistance bands. Opti-MINDS- 4 teams participate and did our school proud. The 2 first placed teams will participate virtually in the finals. P&C are donating $650 to make this happen. Rugby League Jerseys there is a need for more jerseys as the team numbers grow. P&C are providing kits for under 13s and 15s costing $1958. Mindfulness for Mental Health (Just Breathe) P&C will be donating $820 for yoga sessions and yoga mats. Reward System for those in junior years that find school just that little bit difficult . P&C are donating $500 for a trial of a different reward concept in term 4. The picnic tables have been ordered and we are looking forward to them arriving and being used by students. This was the last meeting for this term, with the next meeting being held on 12th October. We would love to see some new faces and get some new ideas so come along and have your say

12.01.2022 Students’ DRAFT timetables are now available by having your student log on to OneSchool (https://oslp.eq.edu.au) and clicking on the My Educational Plan tab. Their 2021 DRAFT weekly timetable can then be accessed. Minor changes may occur to timetables as the new school year starts and classes and teaching staff are finalised. Please note that Year 7's will not be able to log on yet - the booklist is standard for Year 7. Booklist can be located on the schools website at https://macknorthbeachesshs.eq.edu.au/enrolments/booklists Any queries or questions will be best answered once the Admin office opens again on January 18th.

10.01.2022 Upcoming P&C Meeting News Next Meeting: 12 October Where: Resource Centre Time: 7:00pm... Come along and join our P&C and have your say on the best education for your child. The P&C work with the school to provide support in various activities throughout the year. One of the agenda items at our next meeting will be the Student Resource Scheme for 2021. We are also looking to build a committee for 2021 - come along and join our team of dedicated parents! All new members welcome!

09.01.2022 Cross Country Wednesday 16th September Students go to year level parades for Care classes (see below for locations). Periods 1 and 2 will be swapped, so that roughly only 10 minutes of curriculum time will be lost. Students will be sent to the starting line in a staggered start (COVID requirement). All Year 12 students will be sent (walkers and runners) together fist. The remaining runners will be sent in a staggered start, followed by the remainder of the walkers.... Students will return to their year level parades after completing the course. 08.01.2022 Human Powered Vehicle (HPV) Students on our Human Powered Vehicle team were invited to attend a training day for the Whitsunday STEM Challenge HPV Training Day at Palmyra on Sunday 13th September. This was a great opportunity for team members to practice the new track layout for the upcoming event on 10th October the only HPV Race being held in the whole of Australia for 2020! ... Training has continued at school on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons this week.

06.01.2022 Don't forget to pick up something for 7G's collection when doing your shopping this weekend. Emmett4Animals supports Pound Rescue, which supports and finds ‘forever homes’ for cats and kittens. Currently there is a massive need for food, medicine , toys, kitty litter and bedding for cats and kittens. These items support the work of foster carers in caring for our furry friends.... 7G would like to encourage our school community to help make a difference by donating the needed items. Red collection bins are located at Administration, the Resource Centre and in both staffrooms. Each donation, however small, will make a difference.

02.01.2022 Last Friday, Mrs Prior and Mrs Mack took a group of highly-motivated Media Arts students to CQ University to participate in a hands-on Digital Media workshop. During a day packed with activities, students were shown how to animate in 3D using Autodesk Maya; how to take years off a portrait in Photoshop; had a Q & A session with an awarding winning animator; and the highlight of the day, Green Screen studio work. Students showed great enthusiasm and we were stoked with thei...r teamwork in the studio! Check out some of the photo and video footage from the day.
