25.01.2022 Meet your 2020/2021 Chamber committee. Madeleine Connors is a familiar face to many in the Mackay business community and is the commercial manager at The Dispensary Mackay. She is currently serving her first term as a committee member and can be found as a friendly face at most chamber events. 1. Favourite subject at school?... Economics...and just quietly I really enjoyed art for something different! 2. Biggest pet peeve? It takes a bit to annoy me as I try to stay positive, but one thing that I think is unnecessary is the misspelling of names and nicknames... especially when replying to emails. Usually, the name is directly in front of you and if unsure there are so many social platforms we can use as a reference for a quick spell check now. Take the extra two seconds to check before you hit send! Disclaimer: Apologies for any names I have spelt incorrectly in the past and those I will spell incorrectly in the future. Forgive me! 3. If you were Queensland Premier for the day, what would you do? If I had a magic wand I would abolish payroll tax - a tax for creating job opportunities and employing more Queenslanders is crazy! I know no one has a magic wand (please come forward if you do) so if I were to step into the Premier's shoes for the day, I would work toward further reducing the rate of payroll tax for all Queensland businesses and implement permanent, not temporary reductions to keep the rate down and increase the number of exemptions and rebates available to small to medium business. 4. Favourite local getaway location? Anywhere by the ocean. Living in Mackay, we are so lucky to be close to the ocean, rainforest and bushland so the 'getaway' locations are endless. My family has some beach shacks near Bakers Creek so any chance I can I enjoy going down there for some r&r time and enjoy catching up with my grandparents and family while I am there. 5. Qld or NSW in the Origin? QUEENSLAND all the way. My husband and half of his family were born in NSW so it always makes for a fun night! 6. Why did you choose to join the MRCOC Committee? I have always been passionate about business and particularly the role of which small to medium business plays in a regional community. Being a young person in business my idea of joining Chamber was not only to be a part of a great committee team and be a voice for this community but also to bring a different perspective from a different industry. I aim to inspire the young people and leaders in business to dream big as my mentors have done for me in the past and show that although a critical and extremely important sector, you don't need to be in professional services to be a part of our Chamber - it takes all types for our local economy and in fact, the world to go around. #buymackay #smallbusinessisabigdeal #mrcoc

12.01.2022 Meet your 2020/2021 Chamber committee Greg Porter is a second term committee member and is the co-general manager of Porters. 1. Favourite subject at school? ... Economics, I know who would have thought! 2. Biggest pet peeve? Wasted time! We have so little of it to use. So get to the point, stop dawdling, act with purpose. 3. If you were Queensland Premier for the day, what would you do? Make some decisions that are the best for the people of QLD not for the Party! Both sides of the fence do this. So much is stalled due to party rhetoric, getting points up on the other party and sometimes making wrong decisions when it isn’t the best outcome. 4. Favourite local getaway location? A rare opportunity but getting out to the Reef : no phones, no emails perfect! 5. Qld or NSW in the Origin? Maroons all the way GO Queenslander! 6. Why did you choose to join the MRCOC Committee? Great bunch of people that all want the same result the BEST outcome for Mackay. #buymackay #smallbusinessisabigdeal
