If the club decides to hold another presentation BBQ at the centre next year, make sure you go along.

Gerry Synnott, Iris Grasso, Donna Abbott and Pam Joyce with bouquets thanking them for their efforts.... TUESDAY morning table tennis players wrapped up their year with an expression of thanks to the trio who got them through the toughest year anyone can remember. Organisers Iris Grasso, Pam Joyce and Donna Abbott were thanked for their efforts by players Robyn Bushell and Gerry Synnott in front of about 50 players at a Harrup Park luncheon today. TUESDAY Our fixtures wouldn’t exist without the hard work, time and dedication these three ladies put into making our fixtures run smoothly and are enjoyable, Robyn said. It is no small task and I am sure most of us here realise that a lot of hard work and sleepless nights go on before and after our fixtures have been played. The task was made harder this year with strict restrictions placed on play after a shutdown due to COVID-19. The year ended with the final season of fixtures, won in A grade by the team of Branko Vucurovic, Delma Knight and Don Boettcher. Doug Dungavell was the leading player. Kim Challender, Judi Hicks, Ian Dodds and Louise Gould won B grade, with Kim leading player. Play will resume with a doubles tournament on Australia Day, January 26, and players are asked to bring a plate.

03.01.2022 Pictures: Kev Abbott in action, and receiving his life membership badge from Janice Kent. MACKAY Table Tennis life member Kev Abbott is prepared to help the club just about anywhere, but don’t ask him to cook. He helps out at tournaments but we don’t let him cook as he’s hopeless, said wife Donna, the club’s treasurer for the past six years and also a life member.... We have him doing the bar, taking orders in the kitchen or cleaning. Kev was named as a life member at the recent annual presentation night by president Janice Kent, who said he had been a great supporter of the club over a long time. Kev joined the club about 40 years ago when he was 23, when he mowed the lawns with a push mower. He has sold a lot of tickets on behalf of the club and still helps with fund raising. He has played for Mackay at the Queensland and national veterans tournaments, and it’s only been the past 18 months when he has not played in the Tuesday night fixtures, cutting back to just the morning competition. He has been on the club’s committee for about 10 years, and is dedicated to the club. It’s a good club, a good playing centre and lots of good people, he said.

The juniors had a great time in the bouncing castle.

01.01.2022 MC Steve Mathieson did a great job at the MTTA BBQ presentation function, organising some very effective pictorial displays and keeping things moving. Here he is pictured with a moving tribute to George 'No Shoes' Camilleri, who is pictured on screen umpiring a match. George, who passed away last month, was a player and supporter for many years and always a very popular figure around the club. Steve explained the difference between 'No Shoes' George and 'Shoes' George - one was the shoes, or absence of, the other their standings on the results ladder.
