16.01.2022 UPDATE: Thanks to every one who has contacted us so far! Due to the overwhelming response we are now full. Please continue to check our website or Facebook pa...ge as we'll possibly do another recruitment drive for volunteers in the near future. ------------------------------------ Are you keen to enter back into the workforce? Do you want to work flexible hours? Do you need to refresh your administrative skills? We run a volunteer program for women in the community who are interested in donating their time to the Mackay Women’s Centre. It’s a great opportunity to lend a hand, give back to the community, help support families in need, ease back into the workforce and refresh your skills. Volunteering can also count towards your eligibility to access subsidised child care through the Child Care Subsidy and, for some jobseekers, can count towards part or all of your mutual obligation requirements. Check with Centrelink to discuss your individual circumstances. If you’re interested in learning more about volunteering at the Mackay Women’s Centre please phone 4953 1788 or email [email protected].

10.01.2022 Our Child & Adolescent counsellors found this wonderful resource from North Shore Mums It's a great list for parents trying to keep their children entertained and stimulated during the coronavirus crisis. 07.01.2022 If you have no other means of getting food or essential items, make a free phone call to the Community Recovery Hotline and arrangements will be made for non-contact delivery of food and medication for those in quarantine and no other means of support. This will link seniors and other vulnerable Queenslanders to essential services and support. Queenslanders wanting to volunteer for the Care Army should also contact the hotline or visit https://www.covid19.qld.gov.au/carearmy.... The Community Recovery Hotline can be contacted on 1800 173 349.

07.01.2022 We thought this was a wonderful resource for anyone struggling to explain coronavirus to young children. Thanks to mindheart.kids for creating this!

06.01.2022 Remember you can use whatever veggies you would like!

04.01.2022 Bravehearts will be at Mackay Women's Centre this Thursday hosting this important forum for parents and the community. Topics will include: o What is child sexual assault o How to respond to disclosure of harm... o Signs and indicators that something isn’t right o Grooming o Keeping children and young people safe online o How to support your child (We don't recommend bringing children along to this forum due to the nature of what is being discussed).

02.01.2022 Important changes at Mackay Women's Services We hope you're all feeling well and coping well during these very unsettling times. We've had to make a number of changes to the way we deliver our services at Mackay Women's Centre.... We have NOT closed the Centre and we will continue to provide counselling and assistance for those who need it. However we have changed the way this will be delivered. 1. All counselling will now be over the phone. If you have an appointment coming up, your counsellor will get in touch with you. If you would like to make an appointment please call us on 4953 1788. 2. Only in extremely urgent cases will we be able to assist people face to face. We are deeply concerned that the current circumstances will see a rise in domestic and family violence and we're going to continue to offer our services in the best way we can in the circumstances. 3. We've had to make the difficult but necessary decision to cancel all groups and activities at the centre until further notice. This includes groups associated with the centre, but not at the centre (for example, Sarina Women's Group). 4. We will not have any of the visiting services (financial counsellor, Centrelink representative etc) at the Centre until further notice. Please know that we are still here for you. We will just have to do things differently for the time being, for your safety, for the safety of our staff and for the safety of our community. Stay safe
