24.01.2022 From school council... Dear Parents, As many of you would know the staff car park at the school has been an ongoing issue for some time. Unauthorised cars have been accessing the car park frequently, often double parking or driving in excess of the 5km/h speed limit. This has resulted in numerous near misses for both children and adults, and presents an ongoing risk to be addressed.... Last year, school council ratified an updated Traffic Management Plan and corresponding Car Park Policy (located on the school’s website https://mackellarps.vic.edu.au). This policy states ‘the school reserves the right to install traffic management measures, such as boom gates, to control entry’ to the car park. As such, and to ensure safety remains our primary concern, boom gates are currently being installed in the staff car park, and are due to be completed in the coming weeks. The positioning of these boom gates at the entry and exit of the car park will limit entry to the car park by vehicles, and encourage pedestrians to use the gates rather than walk through the car park itself. We are confident these measures will improve the safety for both children and adults. We understand this will require changes to the routine of many families, which is why we are providing advanced notice of this change. We have also engaged with the local council who are willing to provide further disabled car parks to complement the one located on Goldsmith Ave and the one on Yeats Drive should this be warranted. Moving forward, designated pick up and drop off areas for students are located on Goldsmith Ave and Yeats Drive. As you are aware, the staff carpark contains two disabled parking spots for the use of staff, and families who require parking within very close proximity to the school for mobility reasons. If you believe you require access to the staff car park due to your or your child’s mobility issues, you may request this in writing. Whether access is granted or not, will be at the principal’s discretion.

12.01.2022 Yesterday, the Victorian Government announced that, on the advice of the Victorian Chief Health Officer, metropolitan Melbourne will move to Stage 4 restrictions to slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). These requirements apply to all schools across the government, Catholic and independent sectors and across all metropolitan Melbourne. The changes to schools operations will come into effect from Wednesday 5 August, following a student free day on Tuesday 4 August, and ar...e likely to apply until the end of Term 3. As outlined in the Chief Health Officers advice on Friday, schools remain safe places for staff and students but these steps are critical measures to reduce the movement of students and families across the state. There are implications for our school, and for families in our school community. A summary of what the changes mean for schools is below. METROPOLITAN MELBOURNE PREP TO YEAR 10 - Prep to Year 10 students will continue with remote and flexible learning. The criteria for students that can attend on-site has changed as follows: - children whose parents are permitted workers. The Victorian Government will provide further advice about this over the coming days - vulnerable children in out of home care, children known to child protection and other agencies - children with a disability who also fit one of the above two categories. TIMELINE - Monday 3 August will be a normal day of school under current arrangements, with students attending on site learning asked to take all their necessary learning materials home. - Tuesday 4 August will be a student-free day across Victoria to enable teachers, especially in rural and regional Victoria, to prepare for flexible and remote learning. - Wednesday 5 August will be the first day of new arrangements for schools across Victoria - This is a day ahead of the state-wide introduction of the Stage 3 restrictions in rural and regional Victoria, but will provide for a smooth transition and will enable as much continuity of learning as possible. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Family Sharing lets you and up to five other family members share access to amazing Apple services like Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple News+, and Apple Arcade. Your group can also share iTunes, Apple Books, and App Store purchases, an iCloud sto...rage plan, and a family photo album. You can even help locate each other’s missing devices. 06.01.2022 During this Stage 4 restriction, we understand that students will be using their iPads and digital tech even more than ever. *Please note Mackellar only promotes the apps in the self-service app. For all parent information, we strongly recommend using the Common Sense Media website. This is a website meant for parents to be informed and have the knowledge to control the content their children view.... Please have a look through their website - https://www.commonsensemedia.org/ It's great for researching shows, movies and games before viewing them. We have had some concerns around Roblox. This is a game not endorsed by Mackellar. We do have Minecraft Edu for students to use but not Roblox. Here is a Parent Guide to Roblox - https://bit.ly/3l1lwTH Please stay safe both in the community and online. If you need any support please contact us.

04.01.2022 We would first like to apologise for any inconvenience this afternoon caused with the picking up of your children, we understand new routines need to be formed and students are in new areas and to add to the confusion there are some concrete works happening at the BER gate due to safety concerns. We have listened to your concerns raised and thought we would act and implement some changes starting tomorrow. We would like to send out a map to show the drop-off and pick up syste...m will work while the small number of restrictions stay in place for term 1. Unfortunately, we are continuing with no parents in the hallways as these are high traffic areas for staff and students. Safety is our number one key. Entries (green arrow) - Preps Rooms will be available for drop off and pick up for Preps ONLY. Front Office. BER Gate (near BER building) We are continuing sanitising on entry.
