14.01.2022 Smoking ceremonies are an ancient custom among Aboriginal Australians in which native plants are burnt to produce smoke. A sacred smoking ceremony has many purposes. It can be used as a protection against bad spirits attached to places or people. A smoking can welcome people to an area or assist the departed and their journey into the Dreaming. Today, Uncle Ritchie is performing the ceremony for celebration, using the lemon myrtle infused smoke as a cleansing and therapeutic agent to promote good will, conversation and wellbeing at our school. Wave the smoke over you. This is a gift from our people. We thank Uncle Ritchie for the continuous work he does in our school and wider community.

13.01.2022 Don’t forget Red, Yellow and Black Mufti for tomorrow’s NAIDOC Week celebration. No gold coin donation needed. Also remember tomorrow is Pie and Sausage roll day at the canteen.

12.01.2022 See you all tomorrow!

12.01.2022 This week our School Bus is looking a little different thanks to the wonderful design by Uncle RJ, titled Wetland Wonderland. Uncle RJ's artwork description: Wherever there is a meeting of two waterways there is often an explosion of life. Where Taylor’s Arm and the Nambucca River intersect is no different. For the Gamang (Macksville) area it has resulted in many wetlands. We have freshwater swamps and ponds. We have saltwater marshes and mangrove lined creeks. Both depicted ...by the concentric circles. The freshwater is depicted by the jidi or cobra. The saltwater is represented by conch, periwinkle and oyster shells. These habitats along with the rivers account for the diversity in life we see here at Macksville. For this artwork and to accompany rivers and wetlands, I chose to focus on the birds that temporarily or permanently call these places home. Some of these birds dig, some of them fish, some migrate and some wade. The have all managed to prosper here. Pictured: Uncle RJ and Uncle Ritchie with our School Bus. Wrapped by Designwriter

07.01.2022 Dear parents/carers, Ongoing works at Macksville Public School will require working with asbestos containing material. Testing conducted by an independent hygienist has confirmed that the material is bonded asbestos, which means it is attached to other material such as cement or vinyl and cannot be crumbled by light pressure. The area will be remediated in accordance with the Department of Education’s Asbestos Management Plan and SafeWork NSW regulations. All work will be com...pleted by licensed and accredited asbestos contractors, and monitored by occupational hygienists in strict accordance with all applicable legislation, regulations, policies and guidelines. The material is scheduled to be remediated from Block 13 on Saturday 7 November, 2020. All asbestos containing material will be removed outside of school hours. Testing will be completed to ensure the area has been fully remediated. The school will receive a clearance certificate before the area is open for construction activities to continue. We will keep you informed if further material is found which requires removal. The health, safety, and well-being of the school and the local community is our highest priority. Please be assured that the removal of this material will not pose a risk to the local community. Thank you for your cooperation during this important work.
