25.01.2022 Greetings from Champagne France Emile Baracisse was a Southern Cross Exchange student at Macksville High School for Semester 2 2019 in Year 10. He has since returned to his home in Champagne, France. His family has just finished the harvest of three different grapes to produce champagne for their winery ‘Champagne Baracisse’. ... His host families Stephen Papworth (Year 9) and Joel Conway (Year 7) were hoping to visit his family this year but this has been postponed due to travel restrictions. Emile enjoyed his time on exchange at Macksville attending the Year 10 MHS excursion to Queensland, he had the opportunity to go skiing in the Snowy Mountains and swimming with the sharks at the Sydney Aquarium with his host family. He also played soccer and futsal for Macksville. Emile showed great community spirit cooking meals for families and emergency workers during the bush fire emergency. At school he especially enjoyed his Electronics elective with Mr Jordan and with email assistance was able to build a new speaker to replace the one he was unable to fit in his bag for the trip home. Emile was very excited to have a senior jumper posted as a reminder of his great experiences at Macksville High. Jenny Conway, Head Teacher, Science

23.01.2022 Plant Identification at Macksville High This term Year 9 students, who are starting Geography, are learning about sustainable biomes and food security. This group spent their Friday afternoon period 6 investigating the different plants on the school grounds. They were provided with close up photos, botanical information and some interesting facts, then they needed to match the information to actual trees and shrubs around the school. Some of the interesting facts included the gum tree that is not a eucalyptus tree and the plant from Brazil that is resistant to pests and disease. The class will next look at the variety of introduced plant species and consider which native plants could replace them. All students were actively engaged and behaved impeccably during this lesson. 22.01.2022 Updated COVID-Safe Guidelines for NSW Schools Dear Parents and Carers, On Monday 17 August, the department announced an updated health advice to ensure that NSW public schools can continue to operate safely.... As a school community we must remain vigilant and we are asking parents and carers that the following measures are adhered to: In accordance with advice from NSW Health, parents and carers are reminded NOT to send children to school if they are unwell, even if they have the mildest flu-like symptoms. Schools will make arrangements for students who present as unwell or have flu-like symptoms to be sent home. NSW Health have requested that schools encourage anyone who is unwell or has even mild flu-like symptoms, to arrange to be tested through their local medical practitioner or one of the COVID-19 clinics. Students with flu-like symptoms will need to provide a copy of a negative COVID-19 test result and be free of flu-like symptoms before being permitted to return to school. NSW Public Schools continue to be safe learning environments which operate in line with the advice of the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee and NSW Health. All students should be learning on campus and in their classroom with peers, unless they have a medical certificate to support their absence. To remind you of these measures we will be sending a text message once a week and we will inform you of any future changes. We thank you for your ongoing support in keeping our school community safe. Kind regards, Erica Lyne Principal

14.01.2022 A message from the Principal Dear Parents and Carers, Semester 1 reports will be handed out to students this afternoon. Due to the COVID-19, pandemic and its impact, including the period of remote learning, our school is providing a simplified report for semester 1 this year. The number of outcomes reported upon for this period has been reduced. The report still represents the academic achievements of your child through various learning tasks to support learning outcomes. Th...is is in line with Department of Education guidelines. Any reports not collected this afternoon will be mailed out. Some Department of Education COVID-19 restrictions will be lifted from the beginning of term 3. These include resumption of Wednesday Sport, representative sport, SRE, Year 10 Work Experience, brief whole school assemblies and the ability to have some excursions. We also will be having our Cross Country and Athletics Carnivals during term 3. Please understand that school operations are still dependent upon Department of Health recommendations and not all school activities are back to normal. Thank you again for continuing to work with us to ensure our school is a safe place to work and learn. Take care. Erica Lyne Principal
