24.01.2022 LOVE YOUR BODY WEEK FRIDAY ROLE MODELLING TIP It's ok to take pride in your appearance and have fun with the way you look through fashion and styling (if that's what interests you), but obsessing and worrying about how you look can become all consuming and it's not healthy for mental health. Remember, you are more than your appearance, you are not an object to be admired and the important and most valuable 'stuff' is on th inside. CHildren are more than their appearance - their weight, shape, muscularity does not determine their worth, lovability or success in life
24.01.2022 LOVE YOUR BODY WEEK MONDAY TIP Being a positive role model doesn’t mean you have to have it all worked out. However, it's very important that you are committed ...to demonstrating a positive and balanced approach to eating, exercise & your body & appearance so the young people in your life can 'see' what a healthy body image looks like. This helps to combat some of the unhelpful messages that they are exposed to in their wider environment. - Butterfly Foundation Need someone to chat to? 22.01.2022 FROM YEAR 8 PDHPE A little message from a couple of our legendary Year Eighties as we move into the holidays. Cindi and Millie created this for a PDHPE assignment earlier in the year.
22.01.2022 LOVE YOUR BODY WEEK WEDNESDAY ROLE MODELLING TIP FOR FAMILIES Restrictive eating, diets, short-term, health, fitness and wellness plans DO NOT have long-term, positive impacts on health and wellbeing. When weight/shape is the motivator, these behaviours also increase the risk of disordered eating behaviours. By focussing on health outcomes & health behaviours this will ensure that a balanced, more mindful and positive approach to eating and exercise is adopted. Healthy and fit bodies can look good a varietyof ways - Butterfly Foundation Need someone to chat to? The Butterfly National Helpline is a free and confidential support service running from 8am - midnight 1800 334 676

21.01.2022 FOOTY COLOURS DAY Recently, Maclean High School staff and students were encouraged to simply dress in their footy colours and donate a gold coin in an effort to make a difference for kids with cancer this year! Footy Colours Day is a national fundraising campaign which helps kids with cancer. Those kids need you now more than ever. Kids with cancer are especially vulnerable to COVID-19, and are facing prolonged isolation due to their weakened immune system... The money raised through Footy Colours Day, funds Fight Cancer Foundation’s education support programs. The programs educators deserve a standing ovation for their dedication to helping kids with cancer when they need support the most. Keeping kids with cancer engaged with their education during their treatment and recovery is no small feat, especially when their treatment can make them feel so unwell. See more

19.01.2022 We’ve been working really hard this year to empower our students to make more informed decisions about what they’re consuming and sustainable practices. In doing so we’ve also been able to provide our Agriculture & Primary Industries students real world understanding of the food cycle and ethical consumption. Today was Pork Day, we’ll let you put the dots together. In the lead up to today, there were so many conversations generated in PC and we feel confident so many of our s...tudents can assist their families and friends in making more informed decisions about how we should move forward as consumers not only in our local community but as part of our global one too....we also rolled out our eftpos for school events bit too, which is kind of awesome for students to develop employability skills. Thanks to The Ag team and the TAS team for making this cross faculty event happen See more
19.01.2022 LOVE YOUR BODY WEEK SATURDAY ROLE MODELLING TIP The way a person feels in their body will change - day to day and over the course of their life. Talking openly about feelings about bodies as they change and develop is important. Ensuring you pitch it in an appropriate way for your MHSers age and stage of development is key. Acknowledge the feelings your young person may express, listen and try not to dismiss them. It may be about their body (weight/shape/ muscularity), it may be about something else. Keeping the lines of communications open and allowing them to share openly the feelings they may be experiencing can help them work through them in a positive way.

18.01.2022 THEY HAVE GRADUATED! Our Year 12's have been cooked breakfast by our staff (croissant, bacon and egg rolls, fresh fruit salad and juices), they've been gifted gifted 'we think you're amazing' packs sourced by Maclean high school library and careers staff and include little surprises from Cafe Angourie, Sunshine Sugar, Spar Maclean, Botero, Ritchies Maclean (who collaborated with some solid international brands) and have a pretty solid looking embossed certificate. These legends have smiles and experiences that will stay with them for life. We have loved seeing you all grow and evolve into the friendly, caring and beautiful community members you all are. Good luck, you're going to be wonderful.
18.01.2022 ACTIVITIES WEEK Did you know it's compulsory for all students to attend activities week? Even Year 11? It's a great opportunity to undertake an activity which really interests you but also form networks with other MHS students who have the same interests. Need a booklet? See Ms Watts
16.01.2022 ACTIVITIES WEEK Our HPC CREW crossed their fingers and prayed to Hui their trip would go ahead and it it! A two day overnight session at the Surfing Australia High Performance Centre on the Tweed Coast. The 48 hours were crammed full of multiple filmed surf sessions at Cabarita, video analysis and feedback with HPC coaches, functional movement and training sessions to practise airs and spatial awareness, a skate session to work on arm placement and weight transfer and the creation of the UNO/SPOONS hybrid game to perfect reaction time and localised perception. Stoked to see these legends push themselves, take up some challenging conditions and step out of their comfort zones. Can’t wait to see you take these new skills into the water over the break!
15.01.2022 LOVE YOUR BODY WEEK TUESDAY ROLE MODELLING TIP FOR FAMILIES Your appearance does not determine your worth. The way you feel about your body is a reflection of many individual and environmental factors; experiences, people in your life, societal appearance standards. How you talk about your body (and other people's), how strongly you value appearance, weight, shape & size and the behaviours you engage in all can be 'seen'. Striving to heal the way you feel or being more accepting, comfortable and neutral in your body can show the young people in your life what a positive and healthy body image looks like. It's also never too late to seek support if you need it. -Butterfly Foundation Need support? 1800 334 676 (ED HOPE) is a free & confidential helpline running from 8am - midnight every day

12.01.2022 Our SRC Members have finally undertaken their Induction Ceremony! Postponed from March until late July due to all things COVID -19 our 2020 ceremony was a restricted yet refined event. Mr Court gave an abridged Principal’s address, Year groups were presented with their badges by a member of staff, brother or sister and took their oath with School Captains, Riley and Kate chairing the event, assisted by Vice Captains Taylor, Celaeste and Ethan. Ms Essex, our SRC Coordinator has been an absolute wonder this year. Encouraging, inspiring and organising to ensure our SRC students have access to opportunities to represent our student body and provide ongoing support for events designed to engage and uplift our school community
12.01.2022 MHS INTRA SCHOOL SUPER 8 TOUCH COMP A solid little turn out appeared to watch the The Crew v The Larry's in the Grand Final of our Term 3 Super 8 Touch Football competition. We've been a bit limited in what we can offer our athletes this year under the current restrictions so were stoked to be able to inject a bit of a competition vibe for them this term. Over the past 8 weeks, rounds have been played, teams have fallen (cough, Teachers, what happened to your grand final appearance?) and victors made. It was a rather warm day but the skills and teamwork were on fire! We can now report The Crew have come out on top and are our Champions. Thanks to Zhanae & Tia for keeping the game on track with your solid refereeing skills.

04.01.2022 LOVE YOUR BODY WEEK THURSDAY ROLE MODELLING TIP FOR FAMILIES Appearance based talk is language & dialogue that discusses body shape, weight and appearance. It may be diet talk, anti-aging talk, 'fat' talk, 'muscle talk', and is mostly negative. It is unhelpful as this dialogue reaffirms appearance and body ideals. Therefore strive to be mindful of your language and use positive, nuetral words & dialogue to describe or discuss bodies that are balanced, non-shaming or judgemental & does not attach moral value (ie food is not good or bad) to support a healthy body image - @butterflyfoundation Need someone to chat to? Our 13 students competed in Parading, Junior judging and also led steers in the weight catagories. The 3 day trip saw our students demonstrate amazing team work, hard work from sun up through to some days midnight preparing the steers and according to many of the... other staff at the event presented themself with great behavior which was confident, humble and committed. 170 days of preparation for this event has seen these students work 4 times a week from 7am through 9am getting these steers ready for the event. The Cattle Show Program has 35 committed student which have shown immense dedication and effort day in day out the program. They should be very proud of their efforts. Mr Kirkland and the entire Show team would like to thank the massive amount of local sponsors that have allowed us the opportunity to create this program from scratch and allowed it to be such a success. We would also like to thank the many volunteers who have given their time to the entire group to lend their skills, , cattle truck, equipment, and expertise these including Ashley Lee, Scott Naylor, Kevin Mcgrath Moran, Glen Peffer from Mogul Brahmans, Eric from Sumo Cattle Company and Peter Berger.
