18.01.2022 Hello members, The sub-Branch is working with the Club’s administrator to recover monies owed to us. You will recall in 2018/19 we believed that the Club’s days were numbered since it has operated at a loss for years, even though the sub-Branch provided it with significant rent reductions (valued at upwards of $250K since 2012). With that in mind our members weighed up whether our charitable funds would be better spent on needy veterans or maintaining an aging building with l...ittle prospect of recouping the investment required to maintain it. We now feel vindicated that the decision to sell our premises was correct. It is unfortunate that the sub-Branch has had to endure a disgraceful campaign by the Club and others to vilify the RSL and denigrate veterans who had to make the tough and unpopular decisions that needed to be made. To be quite clear, the Club’s closure had nothing to do with the proposed sale of the sub-Branch premises. The Club’s lease allowed it to trade on until 2022 and its demise is arguably a failure of management and decisions that ran down what were, just two years ago, sufficient cash reserves to survive the COVID shutdown.

02.01.2022 Dear members, we have been advised that the Maclean Services Club has entered into voluntary administration and we believe that it may be wound up. Members should be clear that the Club’s failure has nothing to do with the proposed sale of the sub-Branch premises. The Club has continued to generate operating losses despite the sub-Branch providing it with significant rent reductions over many years. Strange as it may seem it appears that the Club’s offer to purchase our premises was made at a time when it was considering voluntary administration. The Club’s offer will be set aside and we will work towards a sale based on genuine offers.

01.01.2022 VIETNAM VETERANS' DAY - Tuesday 18th August This year representatives from the Maclean and Yamba sub-Branches will conduct only brief services commencing at 11a.m. at their respective war memorials. We do not encourage public attendance. Flags will be lowered, wreaths laid and the Ode recited while observing strict social distancing requirements. ... Just like ANZAC Day the COVID pandemic continues to restrict how we responsibly commemorate military anniversaries given the potential impact of the virus on our veterans. For the time being we must adopt new ways to honour the sacrifice of all those who served during the Vietnam War.
