25.01.2022 So much happening on the Sun today in all wavelengths!!!

24.01.2022 Today the Moon is in its Last Quarter phase - the time between the Full Moon and the New Moon. We are taking this time to introduce you to our wonderful team of astronomy tour guides who run our sessions at the AfA. These are the astronomers who will show you the Universe through our telescopes at the Observatory and take you on a tour in our Planetarium. Next up we have the wonderful Taylah - enjoy!

23.01.2022 Clear skies in Sydney. Who's taking photos of the sky tonight??? Just taken now three photos of the moon from the same mount.

12.01.2022 The Sun earlier today through a Ca k-line filter.

12.01.2022 At precisely 4:07 PM today we have another New Moon . That means it's time for our Deep-sky Object of the Month! This month we've chosen NGC 2467, otherwise known as the Skull and Crossbones Nebula. NGC 2467 is located at a distance of 16,000 light years from Earth in the constellation of Puppis, inside our Milky Way Galaxy. This nebula is a vibrant stellar nursery, where new stars are being born inside large clouds of dense gas. This spectacular image was taken with the ...Wide-Field Imager camera at the 2.2 meter MPG/ESO telescope in Chile - the result of 49 images taken in 6 different filters. There are two open clusters of stars towards the centre of the image, named Haffner 18 and Haffner 19. A bright, young O-type star (one of the most massive types of stars) named HD 64315 can be seen towards the centre of the largest pink region (bottom of image), which is thought to be shaping the entire nebular region. Looks like we have a beautiful clear sky in Sydney today, and are in for a nice, dark clear night! Happy New Moon everyone :-) Image Credit: ESO
