23.01.2022 Trangie Agricultural Research Centre (TARC) has completed weighing, weaning of ewes & lambs, and drafting lambs into sex groups as part of the Merino Lifetime P...roductivity (MLP) Project. This was all completed whilst assessing flow of sheep and working through logistics of using the new yards at TARC.The second stage of building the yards will start shortly to enable the various husbandry & research activities to be performed simultaneously to improve sheep flow & handling time. MLP is exploring relationships between selection at an early age and lifetime ewe performance. The project uses raw data, enhanced breeding values and visual classing to select young sheep as we explore new ways to better predict superior lifetime performance. One of five national MLP sites, the MLP Macquarie site at Trangie is managed by NSW DPI as part of a $12 million co-investment by Australian Wool Innovation, Australian Merino Sire Evaluation Association, Merino stud breeders, NSW DPI and other site hosts. #strongerprimaryindustries #extensivelivestock #trangie #sheep #trangieagriculturalresearchinstitute #AWI #australianwoolinnovation #MLP

20.01.2022 FLYSTRIKE prevention, monitoring and treatment all play key roles in flystrike management, but what is the right course of action? And when? Due to ongoing ...summer rains across many of Australia’s sheep regions, growers are experiencing a tough fly season. Australian Wool Innovation has funded a webinar called ‘It’s Fly Time!’ to assist growers in managing high-risk fly conditions, tips for preventing flystrike, prioritising sheep for monitoring and treatment and options for when it does occur. There are also handy factsheets for further information and links. Register now to join Dr Tim Gole, veterinarian and sheep consultant, for a one-hour webinar on Friday, 29 January at 1:00 pm AEDST. Not sure you can make the live webinar? No worries! Register now and we will automatically send you a link to the recording directly to your email the next day.
