14.01.2022 Wanting to have a positive conversation with your teenager about mental health? Professor Ron Rapee reminds us that some anxiety is good. Anxiety is a normal and critically important emotion that we all experience, and its function is to protect us from danger. In fact, it’s anxiety which is helping us to protect ourselves and each other during the pandemic: from wearing masks to washing hands properly. For our teenagers, who have had to deal with many disappointments this year (lack of a school formal, less time with peers), it’s important to remind them how well they’ve coped through this unprecedented crisis. It can be a mark to measure their future selves against, to remind themselves just how well they coped.

13.01.2022 How have Older Adults Adapted their Social Activities to the COVID-19 Public Health Restrictions? Help us understand how older adults have adapted social activities to the COVID-19 public health restrictions, and the impact of these adaptations on their wellbeing, including feelings of being connected to social groups. The self-report measures being administered in this study also involve providing anonymous demographic information (e.g., income and health status) and other ...personal information; answering questions about the types of social activities you did and how connected you feel/felt to these activities pre COVID and now, as well as answering questions indicating your emotional state such as how you are feeling currently. Our research findings will help others provide the right support to older adults adapting to the COVID-19 restrictions. Eligible participants are aged 60 years or older. This study is unsuitable for individuals with likely moderate to severe dementia or cognitive impairment. Go to https://tinyurl.com/y38dynsc to participate! Noeline recently shared that during this unique time it’s vital to maintain relationships and remain persistent when checking up on loved ones. Meanwhile, Gregory has been living through the Melbourne lockdown. He described the lockdown as one of the most profound things that’s happene...d in his life and said that programs such as the Ageing Wisely Online program will help to provide support and structure to those in similar situations.
