14.01.2022 Three Tips for Putting Your Treasured Vinyl Records in Storage Vinyl records just won’t go away, and we’re glad. If you love and treasure your vinyl collection, but don’t have space in your home, self storage at Mac’s Mini Storage, Taree is a smart option. These three tips will help you protect your collection while keeping clutter at bay in your home. 1. Clean Before Storing Anything that goes into self storage should be cleaned first, and vinyl records are no exception. Du...st is a record collector’s enemy, as it can damage your collection over time. Resist the temptation to flick away debris with a t-shirt or other fabric. Instead, invest in a record brush and vinyl-cleaning solution. Wipe away any dust left behind with a microfiber cloth. 2. Pack Your Vinyl Carefully We probably don’t have to tell you that stacking your records horizontally is a bad idea. Placing records on top of each other puts them at risk for warping. Choosing the right music storage containers is important. If you’re trying to keep costs lowespecially when storing a large collectioncardboard boxes and plastic containers with lids will do the trick. New boxes are ideal, since used ones can become weak over time. Pack boxes tightly so they don’t slant, but don’t cram so many in that you can’t remove records easily. 3. Label Clearly Labelling each box allows you to find exactly what you’re looking for. You’ll need to decide what kind of system to use. Do you find it easier to store albums by genre, or does your brain automatically look for items in alphabetical order? You may want to store records the same way you do at home. If you’re storing your vinyl records in boxes, use a marker to label the front of each box for quick access when you enter your unit. A label maker is a great little tool for almost any organizational project, including music storage. If you don’t have one, tape paper labels to your plastic containers. Sticky notes are fine, but they may fall off if you don’t reinforce them. See more
