04.01.2022 The Love bubble... my first upholstery project was pulled out of storage to be furniture at my wedding which unfortunately had to be postponed due to Covid-19. But I wanted to take the opportunity to rewind back to 18 years ago to when I created the Love bubble for my yr12 Design And Technology major work. Back then I was just discovering my love for retro furniture, for fabric, marimekko (fabric I used) and using my hands to create. When trying to decide what to design, all... I knew was I wanted there to be fabric. I built it from fibreglassing half spheres together made from recycling bottle bins. The project made it into 'DesignTech' at the Powerhouse museum along with other yr12 major works. From there I studied Design and Technology at TAFE. But I was soon to realise going down that path meant I didn't get to use my hands to create something. After that by chance I saw an add for 1st yr upholstery apprenticeship in the paper. And so my path being an upholsterer began. Including scatter cushions to compliment her existing cushions and seat pads for 2 occasional chairs. Flooding in Venice and then Covid-19 delayed some of the fabrics from Italy for 6 months!
