25.01.2022 Every time I pick up this little brass folding ruler I can feel the shaky hands of the old Cabinet Maker, as he passed it on to me. The best way I know to honour him is to use the ruler, until I pass it on. Unfortunately it is not accurate, but if I use only it, for the entire job, then who’s to say it’s not

23.01.2022 I do my turnings completely free hand. If the commission calls for it, every piece will perfectly match the next. For my candle sticks I mostly follow my drawings, but love that each peace is a little bit different. It might be the grain, my mood, or the sharpness of the chisel, or it might just be that the curve is so perfect, to me and just as it should always remain #bespokefurnituremaker

23.01.2022 Last night I made some more of these French pins to re stock my online store. If you would like one, follow the link to my website located in my profile This French style of pin is ergonomic, intuitive and beautiful. Carefully developed and weighted to take some of the work away from you, not so heavy as to overly flatten or crack your pastry. A lifetime fine kitchen tool investment or heirloom quality gift for someone special

20.01.2022 I’m drawing templates for a bathroom vanity. Inspiration comes from a photo. A memoir from that time in Paris. Our house is almost finished, but for the bathrooms. This next job is for us #happywifehappylife

19.01.2022 A quick little gift while waiting for glue to dry I love winter and the excitement of a rain storm. From my studio I can hear the rain tanks filling, as I imagine tonights long hot bath. Inside the fire is keeping my cat and dog warm and dry. Outside my chickens are fossicking for worms, looking more like ducks. In my studio I am happy. I love the contented feeling of working to keep warm

17.01.2022 I have no business asking a piece of timber this dense, with this much figure and at this length to allow me to turn it into a flawless pasta pin! But if it works it will be extraordinary... So far so good! I’ll soak it over night in a food grade oil. This will lift the grain. Then I’ll put it back on the lathe and settle it into its flawless finish, ready for its new owner @oldskoolfoods

15.01.2022 Very proud of this Pasta Pin

15.01.2022 Details of a carver arm on another chair It’s freezing and my fingers are numb. I haven’t warmed up yet. I should be moving faster, but I’m enjoying my work and distracted, as sleet begins to fall outside. Today we are expecting snow

14.01.2022 I love these moments of preparation... Lots of clamps are put away, tools are sharpened, surfaces dusted and shavings are whisked away for the garden Pictured is the writing bureau I made years ago at trade school. It was my final apprentice piece, where I learned to carve ball and claw feet. The clamps are a treasured valentines gift, given to me 17 years ago by my now wife As plans and cutting list are laid out on my bench, my workshop sits tidy and poised for work... (My recent project pictures will have to wait, as it’s a gift not yet given by my client...)

05.01.2022 Whenever I do mortises for slats I’m immediately taken back to my apprentice days I do them so much faster these days, but they are just as neat. #neverstophoningyourcraft

02.01.2022 Pretty sure they still have some tickets left.

02.01.2022 The timber is special, both in species and in its history. It’s from an old Himalayan Cedar tree, that once grew beside the most beautiful Blue Stone Church @scrub_hill_1869 More about the build in my story’s. I’m proud to have helped to preserve such a tiny little part, but I want to keep them all! What do you think, too many?

01.01.2022 A resent commission poses for a brief photo in my home I’m a little bit smitten, so working on another one that is quite similar. It is made from Oak with traditional pinned mortise and tenon joinery. I’m thinking of a dark stain, maybe a painted finish? If you think you might like to purchase it, send me a PM and I’ll customise it just for you #custommadefurniture
