25.01.2022 Ahead of National Police Remembrance Day, I was honoured to be invited to a special ceremony alongside state, federal and local government colleagues for police officers who made the ultimate sacrifice whilst serving their communities. For those serving men and women who did not return home to their loved ones, We will remember you.

25.01.2022 Our supermarket workers have been on the front-line during the pandemic. They kept the shelves stocked and made sure our most vulnerable had what they needed. And they stayed calm and professional under pressure. ... I visited Woolworths Rockingham today to thank staff for their efforts. The store is about to undergo a revamp, which will be good for local jobs and the community. SDA Union Western Australia

25.01.2022 VolderRort strikes again. Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton took $500,000 from the City of Rockingham -- money that was recommended by experts for local commuity safety projects. I spoke in Parliament about how the Liberals have ripped off the people of my electorate, who are thoroughly sick of the rorts and the lies.... Labor has asked the Auditor-General to launch an investigation. #auspol #VolderRort #SaferSeatsRorts

24.01.2022 My office in Rockingham has been helping many constituents who have been stranded overseas for months. Some of their stories are heartbreaking. In total, almost 30,000 Australians have been abandoned overseas. ... And Scott Morrison has failed to come up with a plan to help them at every stage of this crisis. Please sign the petition below to tell Scott Morrison it’s time to bring them home.

24.01.2022 I admitted today I won't be voting for Zak Kirkup at the state election, but I do believe Facebook should immediatelty restore the WA Liberal leader's page. Millions of Australians are outraged that Facebook has blocked them from accessing news content, government health information and other pages, including some politicians. This must be fixed as a matter of urgency.... My interview on Sky News.

22.01.2022 We should all be horrified by China’s decision to post a repugnant fake image of an Australian soldier on social media. This is a low point in Australia-China relations. But our trade relationships with China must continue. Hundreds of thousands of Australian jobs depend on it. ... Scott Morrison must accept some of the responsibility for the state of the bilateral relationship. It’s time he acted in the national interest and devised a plan to help our exporters. My opinion piece in The West Australian today.

22.01.2022 Last time Scott Morrison made world headlines it was for holidaying in Hawaii while Australia burnt. This time it’s for speaking over a female colleague who was asked about the culture towards women in the Liberal Party. That’s our Prime Minister.

22.01.2022 Scott Morrison thinks it's fine to bill taxpayers $4000 an hour to fly Mathias Cormann around Europe on a luxury jet as he applies for a new job. Hasn't he heard of Zoom? What do you think? #liberalwaste

22.01.2022 It might seem unbelievable to many people now. But when Susan Ryan became a Minister in the Hawke government in 1983, women could be sacked for being married or pregnant. Susan was a courageous reformer and a genuine trailblazer for women.... She was a great Australian. And she will be deeply missed.

21.01.2022 The Brand Community Lecture Series launched last week before a sell-out audience in Rockingham. The series, held in partnership with Murdoch University, will provide lectures to the community from a wide range of experts. The first one, on the medical impact of COVID-19, was given by Professor Jeremy Nicholson - an internationally renowned scientist leading the Australian National Phenome Centre here in WA.... It was an important lecture to watch, with so much misinformation about the disease floating around the internet. Thank you Professor Nicholson! The next lecture in the Brand Community Lecture Series will be on 5 November. Professor Elaine Holmes will be giving the lecture titled "Of Microbes, Mice and Men". The lecture will explore the importance of our gut bacteria in health and disease and look at ways of maintaining a healthy gut microbiome.

21.01.2022 Today in Question Time, the Morrison Government gagged debate about robodebt. Robodebt was a disaster from start to finish. It caused so much human misery. Scott Morrison doesn’t want to talk about it or hold anyone to account. ... That’s because it was his program.

20.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS: Bradley Robert Edwards has been found guilty of murdering Jane Rimmer and Ciara Glennon. He was found not guilty of murdering Sarah Spiers. The case of the Claremont serial killings has haunted our state for almost 25 years. ... My thoughts today are with the brave families of Sarah, Jane and Ciara.

20.01.2022 Lovely to attend the WA Symphony Orchestra’s Crescendo end-of-year concert at Medina Primary School. The Crescendo program pairs kids from disadvantaged areas with classical musicians from Western Australian Symphony Orchestra It’s been shown to have a profound effect on their learning.... This was a great way to see off the year 6s who will be graduating in a few weeks. I’m very happy to support this amazing musical initiative

19.01.2022 China’s decision a few weeks ago to suspend barley imports from CBH Group was very disappointing. There is no evidence to support the claim that some of CBH’s barley shipments failed to meet export requirements. So today I headed to the Kwinana Grain Terminal to reaffirm my support for CBH and its reputation as a world-class exporter.... The KGT is a big economic contributor to my electorate of Brand and is critical to the livelihoods of WA farmers. A huge thanks to Irving and John from CBH for the tour of this iconic facility.

19.01.2022 In the middle of bushfire season, Facebook has today blocked the Bureau of Meteorology, DFES, the ABC and other sources of potentially life-saving information. Yet they can’t take down murderous gun videos. It’s unacceptable and disgraceful.

18.01.2022 Well done Victoria! You listened to the medical experts and ignored those who tried to politicise the pandemic.

18.01.2022 Good Viagogo has spent years ripping off Australian concert goers and Australian artists. It has to stop.

18.01.2022 Scott Morrison claimed all along he had a plan to stop COVID-19 spreading through our aged care homes. Today the royal commission has confirmed there was NO PLAN. As a result of this catastrophic failure, more than 660 older Australians have died from COVID-19 in aged care homes.... And the Prime Minister still hasn't sacked his Aged Care Minister.

18.01.2022 SAVE OUR PENGUINS I was sad to read in the Sound Telegraph this week of the decline in the population of little penguins at Penguin Island. It’s a place I’ve visited all my life.... This week I went for an early-morning paddle to say hi to the penguins. I’ll be talking to local and state governments about what can be done to better support this key tourist attraction.

17.01.2022 Tune in now to watch Professor Jeremy Nicholson speak on the immediate and long-term effects of COVID-19.

17.01.2022 I had a fantastic morning at BHP’s amazing FutureFit Academy in Welshpool. This unique, high-tech facility is training hundreds of people, giving a much-needed boost to Australia’s skills base. I was particularly impressed to learn that 85 per cent of the trainees are women.... It’s so important that as a nation we invest in the workforce of the future. Thanks to Phil and Daniel from BHP for the tour!

15.01.2022 WEEKLY WRAP UP: Here’s a bit of what I’ve been up to while back in WA for another busy week: I spoke with the Australian Institute of International Affairs for Western Australia about the difficulties of international trade during COVID-19,... I met with an awesome group of young leaders at Comet Bay Primary School to present three new flags and see what interesting projects they’d been up to this year, Had a productive working group meeting with my spectacular WA WA Labor federal colleagues, Participated in the Australian Labor Party multicultural Engagement Taskforce to discuss some of the issues and challenges facing our diverse communities across the nation.

13.01.2022 This is a national crisis. Almost 10 women a day are hospitalised for assault injuries perpetrated by a domestic partner. Already this year, 45 Australian women have been killed in a domestic violence homicide. ... Today is International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. We must all do more to stop it.

13.01.2022 Politicians get 15.4% of their income in super - but Scott Morrison and the Liberals want to freeze yours at 9.5%. The Liberals never miss an opportunity to attack superannuation. Labor will always defend superannuation to ensure ordinary workers can retire with dignity.

10.01.2022 From today, China has imposed massive tariffs on more than $1 billion of Australian wine exports. Meanwhile, 82 Australian coal ships are stranded off the coast of China. And tonnes of Australian live lobsters have recently died on airport tarmacs in China. ... Yet the Morrison Government still has NO PLAN to support our crucial export industries. My media release with Ed Husic MP is below:

10.01.2022 Today I attended the Remembrance Day service at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. I couldn't be at local services this year, so a big thanks to Roger Cook, Deputy Mayor Deb Hamblin- City of Rockingham and Cr Joy Stewart for laying wreaths on my behalf. I pay my respects to the Australians who lost their lives serving our country. ... Lest we forget.

10.01.2022 Today is an awful day for many Australians who are struggling during this recession. JobSeeker (the old Newstart allowance) starts being wound back to $40 a day. And on Monday, the Government will also start cutting JobKeeper payments.... We are right in the middle of a pandemic and just at the start of this recession. It’s the wrong time for the Government to be withdrawing economic support from the economy.

10.01.2022 It was a great night for women’s footy last night at Warnbro Rec. The grand final game between Halls Heads and Rockingham Rams Football & Netball Club saw Halls Head win a terrific game. I am so proud of the efforts of the young women playing footy at Rocky Rams , and all women that have the courage to play this amazing game! The future is looking bright for the Rams women’s footy!

08.01.2022 The WA Liberals opposed Labor’s strong borders and backed Clive Palmer against Mark McGowan in the High Court. No wonder they’re in a mess.

08.01.2022 Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton oversaw the Ruby Princess debacle and he’s meant to be in charge of a safe quarantine program for overseas arrivals. He’s also tried to stop Mark McGowan from controlling WA’s borders. Now he’s been exposed as the Minister who ran a rorts program that denied essential safety projects to communities around Australia, including my electorate.... Does he even care about keeping people safe? #VolderRort #SaferSeatsRorts #auspol

08.01.2022 Today’s Seniors Forum in Baldivis with Reece Whitby MLA was a resounding success. Always great to engage with the fabulous seniors in our community on the issues that matter most to them. Thanks to all for attending!

07.01.2022 Always was, always will be. Today the Labor caucus acknowledged the importance of NAIDOC Week by attending a wonderful smoking ceremony on Ngunnawal and Ngambri country. Thank you to the owners of the land for making us feel so welcome.

06.01.2022 BP’s decision to close its Kwinana refinery is a devastating blow for the local community and 650 workers who face an uncertain future. Eight weeks ago the Morrison government promised a fuel security package to support a domestic refining industry, but we’ve seen nothing. In Parliament I called on the Government to act now to save these jobs

03.01.2022 Bob Hawke and John Howard knew how to get it done. My opinion piece in The Australian newspaper today on how we desperately need government leadership to open up new trade markets.

01.01.2022 With the global number of COVID-19 cases set to pass 32 million, would you like to know more about it? Next Tuesday at 6pm, I'll be hosting the first lecture in the Brand Community Lecture Series, in partnership with Murdoch University. It promises to be an informative and fascinating event.... Tickets have now SOLD OUT but you can join us on the LIVE STREAM via this link: https://echo360.org.au//2347de76-dd2b-4254-bede-dc3/public Read more about the lecture in the Sound Telegraph below.

01.01.2022 Clive Palmer tried to rip down WA’s hard border, with the help of Scott Morrison and the WA Liberals. He lost. Now he’s suffered a big setback in his $30 billion damages case against WA over a mining project, with a court today striking down a major part of his claim. ... Do you think he’ll get the message?

01.01.2022 Do you live in postcodes 6167, 6168, 6169, 6170, 6171, 6172 or 6173? Australia Post has slashed mail deliveries to these areas. Instead of getting mail every day, you’ll now receive it every two or three days. Letters posted within WA will also take a minimum of seven days to be delivered up from three days.... This is happening because of the Morrison Government’s cuts to Australia Post. Visit the link and sign my petition to tell Australia Post to restore our mail service. www.madeleineking.com.au/campaigns/australia-post/
