VERY HAPPY to let you a...ll know that we are reopening next weekend!! Friday, 15 May at 06.00am-02.00pm it is such a remarkable world crisis in the past few months and still continues. 15.01.2022 Q: how do you know that your sugar syrup has the right flavour for your Som Tum? A: after you simmer the mix (secret) for about an hour and you can see the ri...ght sized bubble then you know it’s ready! (The slow simmering is to bring the mix to a nice slightly smokey flavour, really important to the authentic syrup from Northeastern Thailand the home of Som Tum !!!) .... Cheers, Ma Der Team :) :)

We’re Cairns locals, and we come here every weekend. The Ma Der Thai Street Food stand is not to be missed!! I wake up in the weekend thinking about their paw paw salad. It is legit! The best I’ve had outside of Thailand. Their stand is near the Sheridan St side. The ladies will make each salad fresh made to order, and they’ll always ask you the number of chillies you want them to use. I go for three, but I like it quite hot. You can also get other Thai food here, but for paw paw salad lovers - do not miss this local secret! Date of experience: January 2020 =====================

12.01.2022 Every week I go to see the lovely ladies at the Ma Der Thai Street Food stall at Rusty's Markets for the best Som Tum in town. I've eaten a lot of Som Tum in my... time including one in Bangkok that was so bloody hot it had both mum and I downing tools. There's lots of good ones in town but I find they're often filled with too much carrot, beans, tomato and even lettuce. These ladies get it just right See more

08.01.2022 Literally everyone I know who has tried the #pawpawsalad from Ma Der Thai at Rustys have RAVED about it! So I decided to try it out, and certainly wasn’t disapp...ointed. Freshness is an understatement, and the tanginess of the sauce was perfect . The ladies make the salad on the spot and cater to your spice level.
