25.01.2022 Hi Friends, Our close friend and highly regarded tactical instructor (Jason W) has safely returned home from yet another successful deployment into a hostile operational environment. Jason has over 25 years operational experience as a paratrooper, United Nations peace keeper, bodyguard, law enforcement and government specialist instructor and security contractor for various governments and corporations throughout the Middle East and the Asia Pacific region. ... Jason is a subject matter expert (SME) and instructor to various SWAT and tactical units throughout the world in relation to Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT), specialist tactics, firearms and active shooter intervention and awareness. Next Tuesday 26th February, between 7:00pm 9:00pm, Jason and Paul J will be conducting a workshop in relation to Active Shooter Awareness and Defensive Measures in Brisbane. This workshop will be conducted by Defensive Measures International in conjunction with the Australian Institute of Defense, Science & Technology. An Active Shooter is an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area; in most cases, active shooters use firearms(s) and often, there is no pattern or method to their selection of victims. Active shooter situations are unpredictable, evolve quickly and have occurred throughout the world including Australia. Typically, the immediate deployment of law enforcement is required to stop the shooting and reduce the harm to victims, however; because active shooter situations are often over within 10 to 15 minutes, before law enforcement arrives on the scene, individuals must be prepared both mentally and physically to deal with an active shooter situation. This workshop will give you a basic understanding of awareness strategies and defensive survival skills. The cost of the workshop is $20 (current members) and $40 for non-members. A certificate of attendance will be awarded and proceeds from the workshop will be donated to a nominated charity that helps with Australian military veterans. There are enough Active Self Protection lessons to make it worth showing y...ou, but fist fights this raw and this nasty are tough to watch. Could you have survived this? Not helpful. Lessons: 1. There is always the unknown opponent. Always. You're never just fighting the man standing in front of you, but his unknown buddies as well. This is why fights of all kinds are so dangerous. The answer is to stay aware of your surroundings even in a fight, but that's exceedingly difficult and you need lots of practice to do it. 2. This is exactly how a fist fight turns into a deadly force encounter. The loser of this fight may well be mortally or grievously injured by the repeated head trauma. The move at the end is clearly attempted murder at least. In my opinion a second person entering a fight turns it into a justifiable reason to defend myself with deadly force if I am reasonably in fear for my safety, like this man clearly could have been. 3. Even IF he had a gun, notice the situation he was in. He needed some incredibly strong Gun Fu to get the space and time to get to any tools. On his back, with his hands occupied, he was a sitting duck. Learn how to use the ground to your advantage and to work yourself into spots to get to your tools. 4. The guy who ends up losing LOOKS like the initial aggressor to me, though that's sketchy. If he is, the "defender" lost all rights and all defense when he kept going once the threat ended. I wouldn't be upset about a friend helping me peel a bad guy off of me, but the minute the fight is over you've got to let it be over. Or you'll do lots of jail time. 5. Once again, the Bystander Effect is in full force. Never count on help from the crowd. Attitude. Skills. Plan.
