22.01.2022 Everald Compton is worth following and reading. Take a minute each time he posts as you will be challenged, informed, inspired and even chastised. He is a man who always expresses what he believes and knows to be true; a tireless campaigner for innovation and advancement, as well as for the people often overlooked and ignored in our society. Today he has expressed our shame and horror at the racism and bullying in show in #StKilda. Moreover, he calls out the opportunism of ...a simple-minded Queensland Senator, intent to capitalise on and peddle fear and hate. And who then dared to charge his expenses to the Australian people. As a Queenslander and a human being I am outraged by this Senator. I refuse to say his name and give him oxygen. We need leaders like Everald. His is a name I am proud to shout. A Queenslander who makes me proud. A leader who inspires me. It is time for all of us to take a stand. We need a new generation of leaders whose names we are proud to shout out loud. #auspol

20.01.2022 I am glad this Gillette ad is upsetting the Men’s rights activists. Let’s support the men who treat women well and project strong, positive role models for the next generation of men. #MeToo

01.01.2022 In a world where voters are gravitating to Donald Trump, Pauline Hanson and Barnaby Joyce, it’s fair to say that politicians have failed to connect with the people they represent. Interestingly, Trump, Hanson and Joyce are regularly described by voters and media alike as genuine, honest and the real deal. In other words, authentic. They’re rough-around-edges; prone to mis-steps and falls from grace; inclined to say whatever is in their head, even if it’s contradictory, meanin...gless or wrong. In short, they’re the opposite of the crop political machines churn out today: media-trained, risk-averse and lacking in spontaneity. How often do we see different Members from the same Party giving the same, carefully crafted sound bite on any given day or week? So long as they are on-message, stick to the lines and don’t muck up, everyone is happy. Everyone except the voting public. No wonder the punters prefer their politicians to act like buffoons; they don’t always make a lot of sense, but they say it in a way that resonates. Something rarely achieved with a manufactured 15 second grab, 25 word paragraph or 280 character tweet. The fourth estate bears some responsibility. They ask questions designed to catch politicians out, cause them to slip up or throw them off-message. It’s no wonder people are turning off their politicians and traditional news sources. The public is sick of the daily barrage of lies. As Barnaby Joyce’s rapid downfall has shown, the public doesn’t tolerate those who try to defend the indefensible. Eventually the spin withers away and all that is left is truth. Increasingly those in political life are seen to be out of touch. And let’s face it, the longer they remain in politics, the more out of touch they become. They live in a bubble. Very busy, demanding lives, but compared to the average Australian, extremely well paid for their efforts. They’re removed from the pressures of making ends meet in a world where wages don’t keep pace with price rises. Perhaps the answer lies in listening. Really listening. Acknowledging and then finding ways to effect change. The political agenda in Canberra isn’t really all that interesting outside the capital. It’s time for direct answers, not disingenuous deflection. People want truth, even if that truth creates poor optics. It’s time to change the way things are done. It’s time for truth, for less of the manufactured and more of the real. Emotion, empathy, passion. That’s what we want to see. That’s the authenticity we need in politics.
