23.01.2022 Ahead of Salome, which opens on Tuesday, here's a fabulous feature with Cheryl Barker about her other passion: perfume. Great photo too!

23.01.2022 Bachtrack's first ever podcast is all about Wagner and features David Karlin interviewing Stuart Skelton as well as a review of the Tokyo Grimes. You can also enter to win the Met Ring on DVD.

21.01.2022 Thanks to the eagle-eyed Ian M over at Bel Canto, we have some new information about the Melbourne Ring in 2013, confirmed by cast lists on the Ring website. Juha Uusitalo (Wotan) and Gary Lehman (Siegfried) have been replaced by two other renowned Wagnerians: Terje Stensvold and Stefan Vinke respectively. Let's hope both Lehman and Uusitalo are OK. As for their replacements, Vinke will of course be well known to Sydney audiences for his appearance earlier this year in as Paul in Tote Stadt (another monster of a role!) and Terje Stensvold is a Norwegian baritone with decades of distinguished performances under his belt - including Wotan/Wanderer in the Royal Opera Stockholm Ring. Check him out in excerpts from The Flying Dutchman below! (Along with some possible inspiration for a future Opera on the Harbour?)

12.01.2022 Sydney Philharmonia Choirs have launched their 2013 season! Highlights for opera lovers include Fiona Campbell in Purcell's Dido & Aeneas and a concert of opera excerpts by Verdi, Wagner and Britten (the three birthday boys!) starring Cheryl Barker and Stuart Skelton. The line-up for Messiah isn't too shabby either!

07.01.2022 A hot tip for Strauss fans: iTunes currently has Solti's Strauss opera recordings for Decca - Arabella, Ariadne, Elektra, Frau ohne Schatten, Rosenkavalier, Salome PLUS Kiri singing the Four Last Songs and Renée singing the final scene from Daphne - for a grand total of AUD14.99. That's 226 tracks for less than 7 cents each.

05.01.2022 Despite recent reports that their support might be in doubt, it seems HGO is still on board for the Ring - not to mention a wealth of other interesting works and new commissions.

03.01.2022 So incredibly sad to hear that the glorious Amanda Thane has passed away. She will be so, so missed. Our thoughts are with her family, friends and colleagues. Vale.

01.01.2022 Great news from NBR New Zealand Opera!

01.01.2022 "[Barker's] performance, combining impressive vocal clarity, power and stamina alongside theatrical persuasiveness, opens a new horizon of possibilities in the darker dramatic roles and was as compelling as anything she has done, right up to the lurid A-sharps of her consummating kiss."
