16.01.2022 First copy out of the box at Collins Bookstore in Sale! I am privileged to have been one of the stowaways, sailing with the author for the past five years. Congratulations L.T. on a remarkable story, thoroughly researched and beautifully crafted. To readers of fine literature out there, treat yourself or someone you love to a copy this Christmas. Not biased, this is a page turner.

06.01.2022 Aussie, Aussie...

04.01.2022 The Australian War Memorial now has a memorial dedicated to Military Working Dogs. The Memorial Circling into sleep by artist Steven Holland, signifies a dogs final steps, walking in a circular pattern before laying down to sleep. Underneath the paw prints, the ashes of Military Working Dog 426, Aussie are interred. EDD Aussie served in the Solomon Islands, Melbourne Commonwealth Games and Afghanistan. The memorial is dedicated to the memory of all the dogs who, like Auss...ie, have served alongside our military personnel. All of these dogs are heroes, laying their lives on the line to save others in both peace and wartime. Lest we forget.

04.01.2022 #OTD Battle of Sattelberg From the 17th to the 25th of November 1943, Australians of the 9th Division participated in the Battle of Sattelberg, which was one ...of the critical battles of the Huon Campaign in New Guinea. The Sattelberg station was located atop a hill approximately 8 kilometres from Finschhafen, the primary objective of the Allied invasion. The Australian 26th Brigade was tasked with capturing this objective to ensure lines of communication as the Australians advanced on Finschhafen. Over the next 10 days, the Australians advanced west from Jivevaneng up the southern approaches to the mission, using combined tank, artillery and air support. Although the Japanese mounted a strong counterattack on the 20th of November, they were unable to dislodge the Australian positions as the Australians were able to flank around the Japanese counterattack. Following a brief lull, the Australians resumed the offensive and by the 24th they were within striking distance of the mission atop the summit. At 1000 on the 25th of November the lead elements of the 2/48th Battalion entered Sattelberg and raised the Australian flag over the mission complex in the town. During the heavy fighting, the Australians lost 49 men killed and a further 118 wounded. Japanese casualties were unknown but were estimated to be in the hundreds. For their participation in the battle, the 1st Tank Battalion, 2/23rd, 2/24th, 2/48th Battalions and 2/2nd Machine Gun Battalion were awarded the battle honour Sattelberg. One Australian, Sergeant Tom Derrick was also awarded the Victoria Cross for his part in the action. He was also given the honour of raising the flag above the mission. 03.01.2022 UPDATE. TOO MANY CARE PACKAGES THIS YEAR. Support to the Troops Every year, Australia Post delivers care packages to our deployed troops sent by the public, including many community groups, organisations, schools and individual households.... While we genuinely appreciate this support, the volume of packages has become overwhelming and far exceeds the number of personnel currently deployed. This is testament to the generous nature of many supporting organisations and individuals in the Australian community. To balance this generosity, we ask that you consider supporting those that support us, especially those that assist our returned troops, veterans and their families in Australia, as well as federal and state police forces and emergency service workers. There are a range of different organisations in Australia that provide ongoing services to returned troops in the areas of mental health, employment support, training, and individual and family welfare. The Department of Veterans Affairs maintains a list of ex-service organisations in Australia; donations to these organisations help provide ongoing support to those who have served Australia. Another way to show your support is to donate to the RSL Australian Forces Overseas Fund, which prepares care packages that are dispatched to Defence personnel deployed on operations in time for Christmas Day and Anzac Day. These packages contain various non-perishable items and a letter of appreciation on behalf of all Australians. Importantly, the packages are prepared specifically to meet all Defence and host nation transport and import requirements. Donations can be made online to the RSL Australian Forces Overseas Fund. Donations over $2 are tax deductible and every donation is individually acknowledged by the RSL.

02.01.2022 In respect of the four Police Members who lost their lives last night. R.I.P.
