19.01.2022 Congratulations to past student Mackenzie Landy (2018) CITY OF MELBOURNE MELBOURNE FASHION WEEK 23 - 29 NOVEMBER 2020... Witness boundary-pushing collections created by talent from Melbourne’s top design schools in this digital presentation featuring work from fashion students of RMIT School of Fashion and Design, Holmesglen Institute, Box Hill Institute, Whitehouse Institute of Design Australia, The Masters Institute for Creative Education and Kangan Institute. Mackenzie’s ‘Pinstripe’ collection originated from her personal feeling as though something was missing in her life, and not quite normal. With this in mind, she designed pieces that would normally be considered as ‘normal’ apparel and took them up a notch for example using a classic navy and white pinstripe fabric with a pink embellished pinstripe.

17.01.2022 Exciting opportunity for students finishing year 12 to gain paid, hands-on work on a dairy farm Students finishing year 12 this year are being offered an opportunity to gain hands-on, paid, on-farm work at a local dairy farm next year as part of Dairy Australia’s industry based Dairy Gap Year Programme. The Programme will match interested students with the opportunity to consider a career in agriculture whilst undertaking a minimum of 12 months paid work on Victorian dairy fa...rms. To be eligible students must have a driver’s licence and be prepared to be enrolled in a Certificate in Agriculture while undertaking their gap year. The industry has sourced farms with strong HR policies and are committed to offering a positive dairy experience. Students will be linked to a Group Training Organisation to ensure all award conditions are met. Having worked on-farm for the past four years, two of those whilst completing VCE and two further gap years, 19-year-old Kyella McKenna said, I have been fortunate enough after finishing school to take the steps in following an agriculture career, which will lead me to a successful career in the dairy industry. The most enjoyable parts of working on-farm for me are working with animals day-to-day, the rearing of calves as well as animal health and nutrition. It is great to have learned about and actively take part in the various aspects to working on a dairy farm such as miking, working with the machinery and tractor work. I believe anyone can do what I have done. I don’t have a farming background, but took an interest in it and I’m now doing something I love. I’d recommend working in the industry to all young people. It is hard work but you have fun, work hard and best of all make money. In the recent Federal Budget; it was announced that from November 2020 to December 2021 a person who earns at least $15,000 through employment in the agriculture sector may be considered independent for Youth Allowance (student) or ABSTUDY purposes, meaning this Programme will provide a great opportunity for those finishing year 12 this year and looking to further tertiary study in 2022*. Do not let this great opportunity to pass you by. Even if you haven’t previously considered a career in agriculture don’t let that put you off. A dairy gap year will provide you with a great experience and will help you stand out as a potential employee or assist in your university interviews. For further information, contact GippsDairy’s Sarah Cornell on 0437 400 316 or at [email protected]

10.01.2022 Maffra SC is embarking on a history making event! MSC will be one of 150 schools across Australia who will receive wattle seeds to germinate and grow. These wattle seeds are no ordinary wattle seeds they will have spent 6 months in space at the International Space Station! As part of this project (which will take 1-2 years), MSC students will have the opportunity to be involved in a real-world scientific investigation, comparing the germination and growth of seeds from spac...e with seeds that were not sent to space. The project is an historic opportunity for Australian schools offered through Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and One Giant Leap Australia Foundation. A group of Year 7 and 8 students worked tirelessly to create a video as part of our application for the program check it out! 03.01.2022 2021 Transition Unfortunately due to DETs operational guidelines that only allows limited transition we have made the difficult decision to postpone the planned full day transition day for this Thursday the 12th of November. Once whole school transition groups above 10 can go ahead we will reschedule this full day. We apologise for the short notice but we were hoping that they may have been an update to the operational guide early this week. However we are going to start sm...all group transition. This will involve students attending a 2.5 hour session in small groups. These session will run over three days with each school allocated to ONE of these days. We are currently working with our feeder primary schools to arrange these dates and we will publish these as soon as these dates are confirmed. These session will run from 10:00am to 12:30pm. If you have any questions regarding transition can you please contact Belinda Marshall (Transition Coordinator), Lashay Tricker (2021 Year 7 Team Leader) or Cheryl Evans, Nathan Wallace or Jen Roep (Principal Team) on 51471790

03.01.2022 Over the past week we have held a number of transition sessions for our incoming Year 7s. The current restrictions meant that we were only able to have the students in groups of ten, but it was awesome to welcome them to the College and for them to have a short introduction to what Secondary School would be like for them next year. The students participated in a school tour, completed a number of mini-science sessions and an Art activity. We would like to thank our feeder s...chools for their support across these days and also the Maffra SC who conducted these sessions. With new announcements, we are very excited to be holding our full-day Orientation Day on Tuesday the 8th of December. Information regarding these sessions will be sent out to our Primary Schools early next week. If you have any questions regarding transition or the full day Orientation day can you please contact Belinda Marshall (Transition Coordinator), Lashay Tricker (2021 Year 7 Team Leader) Cheryl Evans, Nathan Wallace or Jen Roep (Principal Team) on 51471790
