25.01.2022 She's happy to sit in it if she's getting pats at least!

23.01.2022 Hmm not sure about this weird new floor. Where is my chew rug?

22.01.2022 One of the amazing things about rescuing rabbits, is watching their coat go from dull and coarse to lovely, soft and healthy once they have good nutrition and care. Maggie is shedding her old coat, and is going to have a beautiful new winter coat very soon. It does tend to get all over your clothes though. I must remember not to wear black pants when the bunnies are moulting!

19.01.2022 Maggie had a massive dewlap, due to being undesexed. So our first port of call was to the brilliant Berry Vet Clinic where Maggie was desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, parasite treated, and had a full health check including her teeth. All went very well thanks to the amazing vet team.

18.01.2022 On the 14th April, 2020, Maggie was collected from Shoalhaven Animal Shelter. The pound staff were great, and when they found out that she was going to be looked after by The Rabbit Sanctuary, they actually waived her adoption fee as they knew she would be well cared for. Maggie was so scared, the first thing she did when I came near her, was to bite me! The people at the pound said she was a bit aggressive, but one of the staff had taken her home for a little while, and she ...had gotten on well with some kittens they were also looking after. I suspect that she was previously kept in a small hutch, and once she reached sexual maturity and started displaying hormonal behaviours, she was simply ignored, and then dumped by her owners when they got bored of caring for her. She was handed in to the pound as a stray, and no one came looking for her. We hope that with a lot of kindness and love, she can learn to trust humans again.

17.01.2022 A new snuggle bed for Maggie. Will she chew it up, or use it as a toilet? Only time will tell...

17.01.2022 What Maggie really loves best though, is gentle pats on the floor. We try to spend as much time with her as we can, as she is on her own at the moment. She would really benefit from a hus-bun to keep her company.

12.01.2022 However she also decided to start chewing the rug in her room, so we now need to change the flooring. I'm thinking about putting some vinyl down. She doesn't chew the carpet she also has access to - just this rug it seems.

12.01.2022 Before too long, she started to relax a bit more and we started to see her playful side.

10.01.2022 Maggie is doing so well. She still startles easily though, and would benefit from a home that doesn't have small children, or she could revert to biting again if she was feeling stressed. She is also quite a decent size - 3.5kg. Ideally she would benefit with as much room, or more than she has here, or she could get cage aggressive. And a husbun would certainly be fantastic for her too! She's such a sweet bunny and while she prefers not to be picked up, she will sit for hours with you for pats.

10.01.2022 Then she discovered there were bedrooms off the corridor, and more places to explore!

10.01.2022 At first, Maggie would lunge whenever we came near her. We started to hand feed her to get her more used to human interactions.

09.01.2022 Maggie got a room upgrade when our other foster bunny was adopted, and moved into our spare room. We had to put some plastic flooring down while she was recovering from her spay, and couldn't easily jump into her litter tray.

07.01.2022 I hand feed her a lot now. I would never have dared this when I first rescued her! However now that she trusts us, she is quite gentle when I am hand feeding her small things. She does tend to growl and grunt when I am standing and getting her pellets though. I have a feeling it is just misdirected excitement over getting fed.

05.01.2022 Maggie is moulting at the moment, so I like to gently hand groom away the loose fur once or twice a day. She loves the care and attention, and it's relaxing for me too!

04.01.2022 Once she was a bit more settled, we also gave her access into the corridor, which she was very happy about.

04.01.2022 Why have one friend, when you can have two? We recently had some truly amazing applications to adopt Maggie, and after a very difficult decision, she will be heading to her new home on Friday!

04.01.2022 Lemme squish in here because I want a head rub too, oh Maggie you’re such a sweetie (unless chewing pillows & carpets)

03.01.2022 Maggie has some company on her bed!
