Unfortunately we are unable to extend the opening hours at the moment as my ankle is a little unhappy after a buster yesterday and apparently it is going to take a few weeks to heal. 08.01.2022 A TIME FOR CHANGE I have proudly held the reins of Magic Earth Health Foods for 9 years, delivering quality healthy food options, herbal supplements, healthy body care products and ladies massage therapy. However it seems that the journey of 2020 has headed this business in a new direction and now is a TIME FOR CHANGE. It is with a heavy heart that I announce that I will be closing the Healthy Café and health food component of Magic Earth.... These changes will allow me to focus on Magic Earth Health and Wellness. Customers will still be able to purchase herbal supplements, vitamins, selected body products, pregnancy massage and female therapeutic massage. 02.01.2022 Some questions for you to ponder. In times like this, don't you think we should be focusing on building a strong and robust immune system? What are we hearing ...in the media about how to do this? Stay indoors, avoid germs at all costs, avoid close contact with anyone, and no mention of how we can improve our health with diet, nutrition, fresh air, sunshine and exercise. If we are going to get through this virus, shouldn't we be doing everything possible to build our immune systems so we can fight it? Instead, we are being encouraged to do the opposite, which weakens our immune systems? As a child, were you encouraged to play in the dirt? Do you know why this is healthy? Have you heard of the well proven "Hygiene Hypothesis"? The hygiene hypothesis states that early childhood exposure to microorganisms from pets, dirt and contact with people,protects against allergic diseases by contributing to the development of the immune system. The way to build immunity is to be exposed to germs everyday. We are put in fear of germs and made to continuously stay hygienic. While I'm not saying don't wash your hands, just don't be afraid of germs in general. There is a current ad on TV that I am astounded by. The message is 'Germs germs are very mean. Kill them off with vaccines.' Do you not see anything wrong with this? Kids are now fearing germs completely and are being made to think vaccines are necessary to kill germs. And vaccines are wonderful for life threatening illnesses like meningitis. But for most diseases, our immune system works perfectly well to fight disease and build natural immunity. The fear that is generated by the media is causing a lot of stress and anxiety. Not to mention the loss of jobs and the people who are stuck at home in unhealthy family situations. When we're stressed, the immune system's ability to fight off antigens is reduced. That is why we are more susceptible to infections. When we go to the shops, they are making us sanitise our hands. It is mandated in schools that students use hand sanitiser when they enter the room and leave the room. Although hand sanitiser is good at killing the bad bacteria, it also kills the good bacteria which we need to keep our immune systems strong. Our skin is very absorbent and if the sanitiser contains a nasty chemical like triclosan, these chemicals can easily enter the bloodstream and cause toxic reactions. Soap and water is just as effective without being toxic. Is killing off the good bacteria in our bodies a good thing? Sanitizers can harm the microbiomethe trillions of microbes living on and in the human body that are essential for healthy immune function, digestion, and more. What happens when we kill off the good bacteria that are beneficial for keeping our bodily functions in order? We become less resistant to fighting off viruses, bacteria and diseases. What are we taught in school about living a healthy life and building a strong immunity? Nutrition is a big part of that. I am a health education teacher and an important part of the school curriculum is teaching the students about nutrition. What's a good source of vitamin D? Getting out in the sun, of course. Yet we are encouraged to stay indoors at home. Vitamin A is very important in this time as it helps regulate the immune system and protect the body against infections by keeping skin and tissues in the mouth, stomach, intestines and respiratory system healthy. Carrots and orange foods are high in Vitamin A. Vitamin C is ultra important as it helps fight all germs, builds immunity, builds healthy skin and connective tissue, and fights inflammation. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant, protecting cell membranes from damage due to free radicals. Healthy cell membranes help keep foreign microbes out. Zinc is super important. Zinc is necessary for wound healing and for cellular reproduction, which is important in the synthesis of new immune system cells. Antioxidants such as vitamin C, vitamin E, and selenium help prevent oxidative damage to cells during the immune response to invading pathogens and during infection. Other nutrients, including vitamin B6, folate, selenium, iron, as well as prebiotics, probiotics, may also promote proper immune responses. How many times have you heard about these things being promoted in the media? Not once!! If they really wanted us to get through this virus, then shouldn't this be our main defense against the virus? It has been shown that the majority of healthy people exposed to this virus have no symptoms at all, just through the work of our amazing immune systems. So why are we doing the things that are detrimental to our immune systems and ignoring common sense? Rowan Connell Please feel free to share.
