Publication time: 08:57 PM, 05/01/21. There is a possible threat to lives and homes as a fire is approaching in the area and conditions are changing. The fire started near the intersection of EIGHTH ST and FLORES RD in Wonthella. WHAT TO DO: - If you are not prepared or you plan to leave, leave now if the way is clear. - If you are well prepared and plan to actively defend your home, make final preparations now. - If you plan to stay and actively defend, do not rely on mains water pressure as it may be affected. You need to have access to an independent water supply, and start patrolling your property to put out spot fires. - At all times close all doors and windows and turn off evaporative air conditioners, but keep water running through the system if possible. - If you are not at home, do not try to return as conditions in the area could be very dangerous. - If you are self-isolating or quarantining due to COVID-19 and plan to leave: Leave now and find alternative accommodation with family or friends who live away from the area. - If you are unable to return to your quarantine location within one hour, telephone WA Police on 131 444 to advise them you have had to leave due to an emergency. - Regardless of your location, continue to follow COVID-19 precautions and maintain appropriate physical distancing. ---AND--- A bushfire ADVICE is current for people in the vicinity of North West Coastal Highway, Place Road and Eastward Road ain southern parts of WONTHELLA and northern parts of UTAKARRA in the CITY OF GREATER GERALDTON. Publication time: 08:57 PM, 05/01/21. There is no threat to lives or homes.Firefighters are strengthening containment lines and mopping up. There is a lot of smoke in the area. Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes. The fire started near the intersection of EIGHTH ST and FLORES RD in Wonthella. WHAT TO DO: - Stay alert and monitor your surroundings. - Watch for signs of a bushfire, especially smoke and flames. - Close all doors and windows, and turn off evaporative air conditioners but keep water running through the system if possible. - Read through your bushfire survival plan. - If you do not have a plan decide what you will do if the situation gets worse. If driving - Be extremely careful when driving through the area. - Turn your headlights on and drive slowly. - Watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions. - If you cannot see clearly, pull over, keep your headlights and hazard lights on, and wait until the smoke clears. - If you have a respiratory condition and you have been affected by smoke you should contact your local doctor or call Health Direct on 1800 022 222. BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR: The bushfire is stationary. It is contained and under control. WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING Firefighters are patrolling the area and mopping up. ROAD CLOSURES AND CONDITIONS: Avoid the area and be aware of fire and emergency services personnel working on site. A number of roads have been closed including: - Flores Road between Fifth Street and Utukarra Road - Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Streets between Flores Road and Howard Street. - These roads are now open between North West Coastal Highway and Howard Street to local traffic only. Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully due to smoke. Road information may also be available from Main Roads WA by calling 138 138 or visiting travelmap.mainroads.wa.gov.au or by contacting the CITY OF GREATER GERALDTON. 24.01.2022 This month our focus country is Fiji. We are going to spend lots of time doing activities to learn all about Fiji. All ready this week we have painted the flag and done a cooking experience making barfi. We can’t wait to learn more about this country.

23.01.2022 Welcome to our Koala's Room, this room is for children aged 2-3 years! Here in the Koala's Room we love to play pretend in our kitchen, sing the colours of the rainbow and investigate different animals in our small world set ups

18.01.2022 Following a lot of family input and child interest surrounding colour, this week the Koalas children created a large rainbow out of card. We have also begun to decorate some colour displays for our ongoing project display. We will continue working on these adding more and more of each colour whilst speaking about the different colours and investigating different creative mediums to use - this week we have begun with texta. We always love to hear about any interests or things you have been working on at home with your children so that we can incorporate them into our curriculum here too!

15.01.2022 The babies have been loving sensory exploration. Last week we did several activities to explore sensory activities even more, we engaged with bubbles, goop (water and cornflour), rosemary paintings, water in spray bottles and gluing.

13.01.2022 This week we have participated in science week. We have loved doing a different experiment each day. Our favourites were making volcanos, exploding coke and bouncy eggs. We have enjoyed researching the different experiments and thinking about what will happen next!

10.01.2022 Last week after one of our parents explaining how their child loves to crack eggs in the kitchen the Koalas children decided to bake a huge vanilla cake for afternoon tea. The children were very enthusiastic about baking our cake and demonstrated just how capable they are when it came to independently cracking the eggs, adding all of the ingredients and combining them together.

08.01.2022 The Koalas Room decided to make the most of the beautiful weather today by enjoying a picnic lunch outside! Our chicken, gems and salad were absolutely delicious. Now that the weather is starting to warm up we look forward to being able to spend even more of our day enjoying our outdoor environment!

01.01.2022 This week in the Koalas Room we have added to our home corner by introducing a kitchen into the room. The children have loved choosing pretend food, cutlery and cooking equipment to add to the area. Our new play area has also inspired a new interest in cooking! This week the children enjoyed baking a chocolate cake for afternoon tea!
