19.01.2022 Review from the last time I performed at Wonderland fun park. Review We love the school holiday show and rides wristband combo at Wonderland I always head along with a friend so we can keep each other company while the kids have 15 rides back to back on the Wacky Worm (okay slight exaggeration, but it feels like that!).... Bag of Tricks is a very silly magic show filled with loads of sight gags (if youre a veteran of birthday party magicians then youre sure to recognise a few). Unlike a birthday party magician Magic Tony also has some pretty cool tricks like how does he keep his bunny sitting in that hat on stage for the entire show?? No seriously live birds disappear, cards reappear and phones jump into balloons. There is loads of audience participation so be sure to sit up front if you have any eager mini assistants in your party. And while Magic Tony can only be 28 at most hes perfected a barrage of dad jokes.. the old watch me poke my head through this tiny wooden ring and the like had us all groaning (in a good way) except for the loud kid* sitting next to me who kept yelling I dont get it. The show was about an hour long while there were a couple of moments where we clapped along to keep a beat or were invited to call out our opinions there was none of that do you want to see some magic, huh I cant hear you lets try again: do you want to.. you know that kind of false hype performers sometimes engage in to get everyone supposedly excited. Magic Tony had a bit of banter going on but the reactions he got from us were genuine, and enthusiastically chilled. Other than the odd popping of a piece of balloon-art there was no hugely loud audience participation required a nice change as a parent. Actually the kids (on the whole) were so captivated there was no need to encourage them to remain focused. Charlie (5) can often be a bit wriggly if a show hasnt captured his imagination on this occasion he was busting to be chosen as an assistant (possibly motivated by the offer of a free show bag that Magic Tony promised for any assistants) and he sat on the edge of his seat for most of the performance if he wasnt leaping out of his chair to get a closer look (or wave his arm about to be chosen to come up to stage). FYI the magic show bags are $10 and available to buy as you exit the show they are filled with jokes and tricks (think fart putty and the like). The perfect thing to entertain a whole train or tram cabin with at peak hour as you travel home after an afternoon of laughs, thrills and rides. *the loud kid was not part of my party (on this occasion).
