25.01.2022 I've come across a one-off lot of 550 gsm Magnani Acquerello watercolour paper. Gosh it's lovely, stiff and tough, medium texture, that wonderful Magnani off-white. Heavily sized for any watercolour work, will take acrylic, gouache, even oil paints. This batch has been cut down in half from 70 x 100 cm to 50 x 70 cm. There is 40 sheets, I'm selling it as 2 lots of 20 sheets. The full sized sheets sold for about $19 or $9.50 for the half sheets. Discounted to $7.00 per sheet, or $140 plus $15 packaging and postage for each pack of 20 anywhere in Australia. This is old Magnani stock made at the old mill in Pescia. One lot per customer. 24.01.2022 Our lovely general purpose paper (book work, etching, relief, screen, drawing, painting) "Il Torchio" is coming to an end. I have the last 250 sheets of this paper in existence for sale, it will never be made again. 200 gsm, off-white, 100% cotton, 65 x 90 cm short grain with an exquisite watermark. Use it for just about anything. Here's a photo of a gorgeous work by Jo Lane on this paper. The business was run by Rob out of this shop front for over 12 years until Sara and I bought it from him in 2009 and moved it to Footscray. You can't buy paper there any more, just very beautiful and very expensive shoes.

21.01.2022 Etrusca 600 gsm I found buried in the back of my garage some packs of Etrusca 600 gsm. This heavy weight paper is made from a 50/50 blend of cotton and alpha cellulose. Acid free, sheet size is a slightly odd 48.3 x 63.5 cm, bright white, and it has a medium felt texture. Ive been selling it as a letterpress printing paper, but I had a chat with the Magnani people last night and found some interesting info. Not only can this paper be used for relief printing, it will work happily for intaglio (etching) printmaking as well. So if you need an extra heavy weight printmaking paper, this may be it. The paper is in packs of 50 sheets, minimum order is 25 sheets or multiples thereof. Price is $6.00 per sheet plus packaging ($6.00) plus freight. Only 100 sheets available. 20.01.2022 CORONA, the word, is on everyones minds these days. Did you know that the English word corona was borrowed directly from Italian in the 16th century? In English it usually refers to a halo effect around a luminous celestial body. In Italian it simply means crown. Its also the name of a Magnani paper, and was probably some 60s marketing idea of a Magnani sales manager. So what is Corona paper? In a word, versatile. If you wanted to choose one paper for printmaking, drawi...ng and painting youd chose this one. 17.01.2022 CLOSING DOWN STOCK SELLOFF Guessing that some know I am shutting up shop. I have had my last delivery, and the crew that pre-ordered have had their paper delivered. Im left with a few bits of fabbo paper I am listing on Facebook. There is precious little stock left, so there wont be too many of these posts! Acquerello off-white watercolour paper 300 gsm in huge sheets of 78.5 cm x 116 cm. Its the double sized hot pressed smooth variety for great watercolour paint holdout,... but you can happily throw gouache, acrylic, pastels dry or oil, charcoal or any drawing medium, even oil paint if you like! Also suits screen, relief or even intaglio if you spoke to it nicely! It has cut edges on all four sides, sorry, no deckles. If you like I can cut it in half for you to 78.5 x 58 cm at no charge. Freight is a bit exxy on the full sized sheets, Ill put some freight prices in the comments. 15.01.2022 This is the lovely Pescia 2021/P. The last of the original production from the old mill. In case you were wondering, the 'P' stands for 'pallida' which is Italian for pale. And this is such a beautiful pale blue. Technically it is a litho printmaking paper, but you can use it for just about anything, etching, relief, screen, drawing, it will even happily take some paint. 300 gsm, 56 x 76 cm with watermark, 100% cotton. I probably will not be restocking this paper, so this may... be your last chance to grab some. I have just 70 sheets left. 12.01.2022 I am selling the last of the large oregon framed racks, originally designed for stacking packs of artists' paper, they are quite deep, very sturdy. Each of those slots with plywood shelves was designed to hold a 25kg pack of paper measuring 70 cm x 100 cm. The whole unit can easily carry 1 tonne. The top half comes away from the bottom for transport. You'll need a trailer to transport, although they can be quite easily partly disassembled. $90 Measures 184 cm wide x 110 cm de...ep x 188 cm high. Pickup Yarraville daytime or evening. Rob Jones, the original "Mr Magnani" (and Warren Cooke, I believe) built these shelves for his store in Smith St Fitzroy.

11.01.2022 Vergella Avorio 270 gsm - Final Call Vergella Avorio 270 is a mould (machine) made book paper, made at the old Pescia paper mill. I have a few hundred sheets left, and it is time to say goodbye. It is an alpha cellulose (highly refined pure wood pulp) acid free laid paper, so it has fine laid lines that run side to side of the sheet and the chain lines that run the length of the sheet more widely spaced. See the first photo taken with backlighting. Sheet size is 71 x 101 cm l...ong grain, the colour is a rich ivory. One side is quite smooth, the back or wire side has slight indentations from the laid pattern. It is lightly surface sized. Now, what could you use this for? It's technically a book paper, you might use it as an end paper. But you could use it in printmaking, it would be great for relief or litho, and you could use it for etching, so long as you only soaked it briefly. It will print beautifully by letterpress, fine for offset or digital. List price is $4.90 per sheet, goodbye price is just $3.00 per sheet including GST. 10.01.2022 Before I sold the wonderful papers of Magnani, I had a business manufacturing (among other things) Mat Boards for picture framing. I've uncovered some stock of this I'd like to unload. All the Mat Boards are 1,000 gsm and 1.5mm thick, acid-free. There is 14 sheets of black, with a slight linen weave texture. White core. Sheet size is 810mm x 1015 mm which is just a smidge smaller than a standard sheet. Black colour, the photo on the left is true to colour, the one on the right has a slight bluish cast which is from my phone. Price is $7.00 per sheet or $98 for the pack. I'd prefer to sell as a lot. 08.01.2022 Acqueforti. This paper is a printmaking student's (or professionals!) dream. Why? Coz it's a great paper at an awesome price! Acqueforti 302050 is 200 gsm, size is 50 x 70 cm (long grain, if that counts), a light linen weave texture, 50% cotton and 50% alpha cellulose, in that killer soft ivory colour that Magnani does so well. 'Acqueforti' (from the Latin Aqua Fortis) is Italian for 'strong water' which means Nitric acid, ie, a reference to acid etching. This is a superb lig...ht-weight paper for any form of intaglio printmaking, and is also great for litho. And relief. And for drawing with soft pencils, it will give you beautiful shading. The normal price is a cheap as chips $2.80 per sheet, but for the next two weeks we are offering it to our Facebook friends for $2.50 per sheet. He's super knowledgeable on all things Magnani and good mate too. Here we are in front of their distribution and conversion facility near Florence.

07.01.2022 Magnani 100% cotton handmade papers, the last ever stock available. Sheet size 49 x 66 cm, grainless. Watermarked. These delicious papers were made at the old, really old, paper mill that first started producing paper in 1404 and ceased operations about 2012. The recipes for these papers remained unchanged for hundreds of years. They are tinted with earth based pigments, and come in 2 shades, white (bianca), which is slightly off white, and ivory (avorio), which has lovely ea...rthy tones. It comes in 2 types, wove and laid. Wove (Velata) is toothy but smooth, and Laid (Vergata) has those fine lines running along the paper. I'll post a bloggy thing shortly for a brief history and derivation of terms wove and laid. Weights are 130, 160 and 270 gsm. Not all combinations are still available. The 130 and 160 gsm are fabulous book weights, imagine a book with a full spread of the 49 x 66 cm with the deckles on both of the foredges. The 270 gsm can be used for end papers, and works beautifully for intaglio, and has been used for other types of printmaking. The prices are heavily discounted, 130 gsm is $5.00 per sheet, 160 gsm $5.50 per sheet and the 270 gsm is $8.50 per sheet, inclusive of GST. Packaging is $6.60 for any quantity. Minimum order is 15 sheets for 130 and 160 gsm, and 10 sheets for the 270 gsm. Further 10% discount for a full pack of 100 sheets or the nearly full packs. 04.01.2022 Anyone with any interest in the importance of the Arts in Australia should be dramatically concerned by the recent proposal of Griffith University to close down Queensland College of Art (QCA) studio facilities of Print (making), small jewellery, advertising photography and documentary photography. There are NO substantive reasons for the closure of any of these facilities. NO reason has been given. PLEASE visit the support group page, join, and help with the petition. Write a quick letter of condemnation to the VC of Griffith, or any of the other options. This move will not go unchallenged and must be overturned.

03.01.2022 SOLD I've got a box of 60 sheets of Incisioni white 65070 310 gsm, 70 x 100 cm. Someone ordered it, but was not able to pay for it, a sad reflection of these strange times. Normally you would pay $9 per sheet, plus $10 for the box, plus about $30 shipping, or a total of $580. The first person to comment 'Sold' or to pm me can have it for $500 even with no extra charges. 01.01.2022 The Magnani Papers shop closes next week and we are relocating the business to our home. We visited the Magnani crew neat Pistoia in Italy recently, and are encouraged by their progress in making sweet paper for us all to enjoy. Very limited and significantly discounted. Mostly 130 and 160 gsm, with a last small lot of the 270 gsm. All these papers are laid, but are still suitable for book work, journals, and can also be used for printmaking: intaglio, relief, probably even litho and screen, and perfect for letterpress work. Why handmade papers? Up until about the 1820's all paper was made by hand, and it wasn't until the mid 19th century that machine made papers became common. These days only a tiny fraction of one percent of papers are made by hand, they are rare products indeed! So the reasons are more emotional than practical: they are rare, they are tactile, they are papers of beauty, and they will work. All art on paper until about 1860 was produced on handmade papers, and these old production Magnani handmades are exceptional quality. Postage estimates in comments.
