24.01.2022 Just ponder on this for a minute... 2020 - We just have to stay in for a couple of months. WW II - You have to leave your loved ones and might never see them ag...ain. 2020 - But my kids need some fresh air so we're all going to the park. WW II - Your kids have to be evacuated and live with random good samaritans for their safety. 2020 - I can only Facetime my family and friends I can't see them. WW II - I have written letters, I'm hoping they're received and I get a response this year. 2020 - I am trying to order my food shop online, it's taking ages to get to me I need, alcohol, and all the other foods I'm craving. WW II - Are you coming to queue-up in the line for our rations-potato soup every day of the week? 2020 - The government hasn't said we can't go out, they just said we can but only once to exercise so I'm going to go meet my friends and do what I want. WW II - I'm not going out just in case a bomb drops so I will stay in listening to some music quietly because the air raid siren might go off. 2020 - Netflix needs to sort the streaming out I can't even watch a series without it crashing. WW II - We are sitting in the dark around a candle playing cards keeping as much light in as possible so the warplanes don't see us from above. 2020 - Every man for themselves, so I'm going to stock-pile as much as I can because we are more important than anyone else, never mind the elderly that gave us this freedom. WW II - I'm so grateful for this community, everyone is helping each other out when and where we can, we must stay strong. This is the perspective that we should have, we don't know how LUCKY we have it and people still aren't listening. Stay in, it really is that simple.

19.01.2022 Do you know what a gunfire breakfast is? Or why we play the Last Post on ANZAC Day? ANZAC Day is rich in military protocol and traditions. We explain what some of the traditions mean and how they came about.

16.01.2022 It is with great sadness that we note the passing of one of our most treasured members. Last night Col Fulford passed away at the age of 103. We will truly miss his wonderful sense of humor and being entertained by his talented ability to play the mouth organ. Rest easy soldier your duty is now done.

08.01.2022 As we approach Anzac Day, we will be doing a little something special on the day. We will be following the Qld State Branch directive by not holding the traditional service. But we will be asking the community to stand at their drive way to Light up the Dawn. Stay tuned for a few more details to really show how Maggie can shine.
07.01.2022 Anzac Day Magnetic Island 2020 A message from the President (Long Post) Magnetic Island RSL Sub-Branch will be complying with the State and National directives to not hold any commemorative services in line with health and government advise.... RSL Qld has proposed an alternative with the "Light up the Dawn". Where people who wish to participate stand in their drive way with a light to show there support for those that have served and have gone before us. The lights to be glowing at 06:00am to coincide with the dawn service that will be held at the Australian War Memorial. I would personally like to invite all of Magnetic Island to participate in this. I would also like to capture this once in a life time moment for our wonderful community to come together to show the rest of Australia how proud, respectful and grateful our community is of the efforts made by all those who have served. A drone has been organized to fly over the Island and capture this moment, as well as all the Emergency Services to be located at a particular site on the Island to Light up the the Dawn and show our respect. To give the drone enough time to capture the moment I ask that the lights shine from 05:30am and until the dawn darkness is broken. What I ask of the community, is to please not only show your candles and other lights, but to also point the brightest light that you have into the pre-dawn darkness sky, from a clear area so the drone may capture the light and we can truly show the rest of the world just how much Maggie can shine. The sub-branch will be maintaining flag protocol at Alma Bay. Please be advised that there will be a POLICE presence at Alma to turn away any one that decides to ignore the directives from Qld health and Government authorities. Many of our veteran community may not have access to Facebook let alone the internet. So please if you know of a veteran in your street or bay that would benefit from this information please let them know. This act may not seem important but I can assure you it is vital for the welfare of our veterans.

03.01.2022 #Onthisday in 1917 Private Joergen Christian Jensen was awarded the Victoria Cross in Nouriel, France. On the morning of 2 April, the 50th battalion attacked th...e village of Nouriel from the south-east. As they closed in on their objective the area was swept with enemy machine gun fire but the troops gained ground and managed to capture or silence many of the German positions. On the right, however, part of the battalion met resistance from an enemy strong point which held up the advance. A bombing party, including Jensen, was ordered to silence the post. Jensen closed in and managed to throw a bomb into the enemy post and convinced them to surrender. He ordered the newly surrendered Germans to persuade another nearby party to surrender with them. The firing ceased and the prisoners were sent to the rear. The town was taken that day and it was for these efforts he was awarded the Victoria Cross. Read more: http://ow.ly/AYhO50yW3QG
