25.01.2022 Many thanks to a lovely local who came across this gorgeous Koala who was crossing the road. It's always a worry when the animals cross the roads, especially at night, as cars can hit them accidentally. This lovely Koala made it across the road under the watchful eyes of the local. Thankyou so much to this local for being a guardian for this beautiful koala Please drive slowly and carefully at night
25.01.2022 We've been really busy at MIWC and we just had to share this little beauty. This is a baby Brahminy Kite. While the adults are very easy to identify, the juveniles are often confused with the Whistling Kite or light Little Eagle. The juveniles can even be mistaken for Ospreys, but are dark underneath rather than white. After contacting bird of prey expert Deb, it was found he/she was extremely hungry. Now in care, this little one will be released once its large enough and strong enough. What a beauty! And a special thanks to the local that rang through to report this little one Thankyou so very much for caring and calling us. MIWC is on call 24/7 0427 918 130
23.01.2022 Say hi to Collie :D Collie is a gorgeous little Rock Wallaby on Magnetic Island who needed some help a few months back. Its so important that people need to be extremely careful when driving around the island as these little wallabys are yet another of the lovely Australian natives on the island. Collie regularly comes back to say hi and has joined a group of 10+ local Rock Wallabys. Fantastic rescue release.
22.01.2022 There have been some claims that Magnetic Island has been declared as not being a safe place to release Agile Wallabies. The Department of Environment and Science (DES) advise that if Magnetic Island had been declared as not being a safe place to release Agile Wallabies, or any other wildlife, that a Formal Notice would have been issued and a copy would have been sent to every wildlife carer on the island. DES also advise that NO FORMAL NOTICE HAS BEEN ISSUED.
22.01.2022 Today we were called to rescue this gorgeous female Koala. She was sitting at the base of a tree up on a mountain track. It was quite a steep walk to get there. A great big THANKYOU to Madi and Luke who were visiting the island and helped us out :) The Koala was thirsty and she took water from a bottle. We got fresh eucalyptus leaves for her and took her back to HQ. We contacted the Koala Hospital and the Vet picked her up. Amazingly, a little arm popped out, she had a baby... :) As hot as this walk was, it's a fantastic outcome <3 Today was a good day :) See more
21.01.2022 Our thoughts and prayers are with all life on Fraser Island Qld as fire has ravaged across the island for approx a month. Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world at 120km, home to unique wildlife, ecosystems and environmental habitat. The fire was started by a person who let his campfire get away from him. The death of animals and the environment is devastating. Large air tankers have been dropping water on the fires and the Fire services have now started to back burn to try and get the fire under control. A preventable tragedy. 20.01.2022 Thankyou to Indonesia for saving these trafficked animals, including the gorgeous Dusky Pademelon "It is believed that predation by non-native red foxes was the primary reason for the extinction of the dusky pademelon on mainland Australia." "The IUCN Red List currently lists dusky pademelons as vulnerable; however, the data has not be evaluated since 1996. The Australian government is taking measures to protect its red-bellied, red-necked, and red-legged pademelon populat...ions. Establishment of parks and nature reserves is playing an important role in conservation efforts and hunting of pademelons is now prohibited." - Aquarium of the Pacific https://www.thejakartapost.com//indonesia-repatriates-91-s http://www.aquariumofpacific.org/onlinele//dusky_pademelon
20.01.2022 Icy grasses for breakfast!
17.01.2022 Today we got a call out to rescue this dear little Sacred Kingfisher baby. He was found on the ground alone by himself and a kind man saw him and gave us a call. Absolutely beautiful and needing extra special care. On closer inspection of him he has a little cut on his wing (very little) we believe he got from his fall. He cant fly yet, so he will be in care until he is fit and healthy. But !! We need to name him, so please if you can think of a name for him, let us know Thanks
16.01.2022 Magnetic Island Wildlife Care (MIWC) regularly visit the iconic Rock Wallaby's all over the island. We pay special attention to the Rockies at Arcadia as they need some loving care. Their water trough needs filling everyday which we do, along with some very caring residents. We also provide them regularly with grasses and other nutritious foods. In this photo taken today is the beautiful older wallaby we call Orange. Orange is older and has lost a few teeth causing her to drool. In fact one of the caring residents who also loves her named her "drooly" We are dedicated kind licenced and qualified authentic carers who absolutely love these and all the beautiful animals of Magnetic Island. We are the friendly wildlife rescuers on call 24/7. If you find an animal in need please call us anytime 0427 918 130

14.01.2022 Wonderful words, authentic and truth
13.01.2022 Say hi to Greta <3 Here is the dear little possum rescued just the other day, see below post. Sending out a big thank you to everyone who put forward names to call this little girl. Between me and the other wildlife carers we decided that Greta was a beautiful name so thank you to Maxine who put forward the name Greta. xo Again thank you to everyone who put names forward, sadly we know only too well that there will be more darling creatures that will need rescue and we will b...e calling on everyone again to help name them. <3 Greta was absolutely exhausted and has slept so much. Over 2 days, we've removed hundreds of maggots from Greta. Myself and the other wildlife carer were very worried that some may have got inside of her, but for now she is stable. She has been bitten multiple times by a dog, but this very young possum must have fought hard to survive. We had to shave off fur from various parts of her body to get to the maggots. Thank goodness we got her very soon after the attack, maybe 1 day, as the maggots were only tiny and were not entrenched. Time is everything in cases like this. Greta is eating really well and gaining strength. She also has a section of dermatitis across her eyes, which was the first area treated. This glossy or wet look across her eyes and face area is the ointment. From her condition, we think that Greta was struggling to find food which triggered the dermatitis which subsequently weakened her and her foraging skills, then being on the ground and attacked by a dog. As Greta heals, we will give updates on her progress. A dear little survivor who can now rest easy xo
12.01.2022 We got a call out today regarding another Koala that was sitting in the middle of the road. Some lovely locals on MI got him off the road and he trotted to a tree and climbed up about 2 meters. As we got there, the little one had climbed up the very top of the tree, far too high to reach. The locals shared this photo with me of the darling one. He/she might have had a fright by something as it looks quite healthy on the outside appearance, but still a bit of a worry. All w...e can do is wait and see. We're monitoring the site and hopefully he/she will be ok. It is always a red flag to see a Koala sitting in the middle of the road and we thank the lovely people who rang us here at Magnetic Island Wildlife Care. <3 We're friendly, qualified, licence holding group of wildlife carers on call 24/7 - 0427 918 130

11.01.2022 Wow 64000 turtles in the Great Barrier Reef !! Beautiful
10.01.2022 Some people staunchly say that cars are not a problem on Magnetic Island and there are too many animals, they are wrong. Cars are a problem because of the people driving them and not being observant and alert to our islands beautiful wildlife. Our most frequent call outs for rescues are car hits and dog attacks on native wildlife. Dogs and cats are only as good as their owners train them to be. SLOW DOWN
10.01.2022 Magnetic Island polluted once again with thousands of bean bag filling made of polystyrene at Picnic Bay. It is not the first time this has happened with Nelly Bay and Geoffrey Bay sustaining polystyrene from bean bags previously. The danger to marine life and marine parks is devastating. Thankfully Qld Parks and Wildlife and locals acted quickly to contain the pollution. Parks and Wildlife are urging people to reconsider using bean bags MIWC suggests using portable chair...s or simply use your towel. Its a small change to make but that change would save thousands of marine species and prevent pollution. 10.01.2022 Meet Hush Thankyou to everybody who helped name our new little person. Thankyou to the lovely Celia Athumani who put forward the name "Hush" which is the possum from an Australian story called "Possum Magic" Little Hush is a boy and needs alot of care, but he is coming along really well, eating and wounds healing too Will update on his progress <3
09.01.2022 On one of our call outs today, was for this beautiful fruit dove. Sadly, this one flew into a window and sustained a fatal head injury.
09.01.2022 Hi, Im a new resident at MIWC but I havent got a name yet. I have been attacked by a dog and have dermatitis. I am a boy. Please help name me.
09.01.2022 The Agile Wallaby is one of the most precious, yet persecuted and misunderstood wallabys. There are always stories to tell about how animals arrived to certain places around the world, and the gorgeous Agile Wallaby is one of them. While some people claim the Agile Wallaby's of Magnetic Island are not indigenous to the island, science is what we at MIWC base our belief on, which weighs heavily in favour that the Agile Wallaby's are certainly indigenous to the island. A repor...t is currently being conducted that will once and for all end the Agile Wallaby prejudice. This map shows the Riversleigh World Heritage Site located horizontal to Townsville. At the Riversleigh site, numerous fossil remains have been found to what is believed to be the ancestors of both the Kangaroo and the Wallabys. The distance between Riversleigh and Townsville is certainly not far from a historical stance. Townsville was solidly joined to Magnetic Island up until approximately 5000 years ago. Still to this day, you can nearly walk across from Magnetic Island to Townsville in the spring low tides, however over the thousands of years of earth movement there is a recent (in historical terms) small deep section that still can be crossed, whether by swimming or boat. We at MIWC are very excited to read this new scientific study on the Agile Wallabys. Science is always a fascinating pursuit. We believe that this report will be able to identify all the species that arrived on Magnetic Island and how they arrived. Exciting ! See more
08.01.2022 So beautiful <3 Im sure alot of the authentic wildlife carers in Australia know exactly what it is like to care for such a beautiful little baby
07.01.2022 Wow, our 24/7 animal rescue hotline has been running super hot over the last few days! Tonight we got a call about 330am, to rescue a little baby koala Sadly mum had been killed a couple of days ago and baby was out frightened and crying. A lovely new resident named Claudie, who called our rescue hotline (0427 918 130) and we were able to get little baby to safety. Claudie's daughter helped care for the little koala, so we named the baby Leili after Claudie's daughter <3 We got some rehydration and lovely young gum leaves for this darling. Then the lovely Magnetic Island Koala Hospital Vet, Ali Bee, arrived and baby is safe and sound Tonight was a good night
