24.01.2022 They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. LEST WE FORGET.

24.01.2022 To help support local businesses during these very difficult and uncertain times, while also providing registered MICare clients with discounted meals, MICare has made a fantastic arrangement with a number of participating establishments on the Island. MICare is funded to assist with the provision of meals to eligible people over the age of 65 and has arranged with participating businesses, to subsidise the cost of meals to registered MICare clients. The discount will be ap...plied automatically when a registered client contacts one of the participating cafés or restaurants and orders from the select MICare menu. You will need to provide your Aged Care Number at the time you place your order, to receive the discount. Over time, other restaurants & cafés may be added to the list of participating businesses and updated lists will be provided periodically, as this occurs. For further information about how you can take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to have discounted meals at your favourite places on the island, contact MICare today on 4758 1506 See more

24.01.2022 Anzac Day Magnetic Island 2020 A message from the President (Long Post) Magnetic Island RSL Sub-Branch will be complying with the State and National directives ...to not hold any commemorative services in line with health and government advise. RSL Qld has proposed an alternative with the "Light up the Dawn". Where people who wish to participate stand in their drive way with a light to show there support for those that have served and have gone before us. The lights to be glowing at 06:00am to coincide with the dawn service that will be held at the Australian War Memorial. I would personally like to invite all of Magnetic Island to participate in this. I would also like to capture this once in a life time moment for our wonderful community to come together to show the rest of Australia how proud, respectful and grateful our community is of the efforts made by all those who have served. A drone has been organized to fly over the Island and capture this moment, as well as all the Emergency Services to be located at a particular site on the Island to Light up the the Dawn and show our respect. To give the drone enough time to capture the moment I ask that the lights shine from 05:30am and until the dawn darkness is broken. What I ask of the community, is to please not only show your candles and other lights, but to also point the brightest light that you have into the pre-dawn darkness sky, from a clear area so the drone may capture the light and we can truly show the rest of the world just how much Maggie can shine. The sub-branch will be maintaining flag protocol at Alma Bay. Please be advised that there will be a POLICE presence at Alma to turn away any one that decides to ignore the directives from Qld health and Government authorities. Many of our veteran community may not have access to Facebook let alone the internet. So please if you know of a veteran in your street or bay that would benefit from this information please let them know. This act may not seem important but I can assure you it is vital for the welfare of our veterans.

20.01.2022 A massive thank you to the crew onboard Pilgrim Sailing. Recently we have had two groups of ‘Adventurous Seniors’ who enjoyed a beautiful Sunset Sip 'n Sail evening. We couldn’t help but relax and enjoy the luxury of this comfortable yacht while spoilt with quality champagne and platter of crackers, homemade chutney and local cheeses. The weather was perfect as a light breeze filled the sails and the sun slowly dipped behind the hills of Maggie. Such a treat! Thank you Clayton, Clem, Clare and Paul. We look forward to our next booking

13.01.2022 MICare is taking COVID-19 extremely seriously and the health and wellbeing of our clients, staff and community is our number one priority. We recognise that many of the services we provide are essential to our clients and would like to assure you all that we are endeavouring to maintain normal operations. MICare is constantly monitoring updates and adhering to the advice of government, the Department of Health and other relevant advisory bodies. This is a constantly evolving... situation however, and some services may be disrupted as a consequence of any further action required. MICare has suspended all group activities for a minimum four weeks on recent advice received from the Department of Health. MICare’s in-home support services are unaffected at this time and will continue as normal subject to client choice, staff/contractor availability and further advice from government. If you require assistance for shopping, meal preparation, personal care, domestic assistance or home maintenance please get in contact with the office. In recognition of the high demand for services and consequent pressure on My Aged Care assessors, the Federal government has relaxed the usual requirement for clients to have a My Aged Care referral, prior to receiving services. If you or anyone you know is over the age of 65, they are now able to immediately contact MICare directly to request access to aged care services; however, these are subject to availability. People who make a referral to MICare for aged care services now have up to six-weeks to register with My Aged Care. MICare will continue to provide regular information and updates about our services as the situation progresses. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us on 4758 1506.
