31.01.2022 Did some research Edit :Someone pointed out that the word lost is not entirely accurate.. and it is true that burnt would have been better.. but I wrote t...his yesterday watching those horrific images coming through and my language wasn’t as precise as it could have been. Edit : I posted this originally for the benefit of friends overseas (which is why the numbers are described in acres not hectares) to try and give them some understanding of what the situation is here in Australia. It is not and was never meant to be a perfect summation. I never ever thought that it would be so widely shared. No agenda, certainly not politically motivated. Out of respect for the many Australians who are right now in deep shock and mourning as a direct result of being impacted by fire, please consider what you are saying before you hit post. Thank you.

19.01.2022 No rain, yet! Beautiful fluffy clouds skirting the blue heavens all day but not a drop to see. Somerset Lake looking superb, as usual, but I’m sure it would love to feel the pitter patter of raindrops.

18.01.2022 One of the ‘local’ visitors, today the birdbath got a serious workout! Beautiful baby, welcome anytime.

17.01.2022 A wee shower of rain just now, what a gorgeous sound on the roof. It’s all over now with the sky starting to lighten. The forecast 27-31 for today promises a rather humid day, and it’s only 8 days into spring !!

08.01.2022 Clouds starting to roll in very slowly. This could be the start of something wonderful ... rain which we desperately need everywhere. Bring it on!

05.01.2022 Somerset Dam gates are open, for the next 72 hours flowing into Wivenhoe Dam. I can hear the water pouring forth, so there’s a bit on the way.

03.01.2022 Amberley are obviously doing Low Altitude Flying, just had another go through Somerset Dam Village. The second in as many days, prettyyyyyy dam low (pun intended).

17.11.2021 One of the ‘local’ visitors, today the birdbath got a serious workout! Beautiful baby, welcome anytime.

22.10.2021 The Dam gates have reopened, water pouring out over the next 48hours. Boy it’s a great sound, but there must be a huge amount coming down the pike for them to keep opening the gates every couple of days. They say Wivenhoe will only receive 0.5 mtrs in the next 24hrs, so slowing topping it up.

15.10.2021 The 2nd storm for the day approaches, thunder rumbling not far away. The wind is building and the temp has dropped by at least 10deg. Could be an interesting night Best charge the phone etc and open the wine

02.10.2021 Rain stopped, bright blue sky no clouds and now rather warmish today. The gates of Somerset Dam are currently closed.

25.09.2021 Somerset Dam gates have been opened for the next 24 hours, Wivenhoe Dam to receive up to 0.05 metres during that time. I can hear the water surging through the gates, the absolute force is quite amazing really.

11.09.2021 A wonderful thunderstorm happening here, great rain and low lying cloud. Cannot see the mountain at all. Good stuff.

08.09.2021 Somerset Dam gates now all closed, love the sound of the water flowing out. I'd also love to know how much went through the gates into Wivenhoe Dam. A beautiful day here, sun and heat so all good.

03.09.2021 Well, 3 of the gates have been opened at Somerset Dam, the water is pouring out and streaming towards Wivenhoe Dam. The flow has been going for a couple of days with another 24 hours still to pour forth. We we are obviously due to see a lot of water come into Lake Somerset over the next few weeks, what a gift! Wivenhoe is currently only sitting at 75% full, so there’s absolutely no need to panic. Somerset will only feed 0.05m into Wivenhoe at the completion of the flow.
