25.01.2022 MH Healthy Skin tips: WHY MOISTURISE? Our skin lipid barrier function (that you can not see) needs to be protected and kept well hydrated all year round. In winter our skin will dry and feel lifeless due to the lack of lipids present in our upper layers of the skin. When this occurs, dig deep into your most nourishing cream, it may be so you use your night cream or upgrade to a heavier more emulsion cream you have and include a hydration serum for ultimate results. In summer... change over to a lighter moisturiser and include a Vitamin C serum for a fresh summer glow. Vitamin C is a very important serum to encourage collagen production and give plumpness to the upper layers of your skin. 22.01.2022 MH BEAUTY TIPS SUMMER TIME The festive season 'tis the season to be jolly! So on that note, just a few pointers to consider: ... Keep well hydrated - your skin cells live in water, the more hydrated you are the less likely your skin will look lifeless and dull. A glass of water each morning with a squeeze of lemon juice detoxes and prepares your skin for the day it is recommended 6-8 glasses per day. Increase your lipid levels for example taking flaxseed oils caps or fish oil caps daily will increase the lipid levels which in return holds moisture within each cell. The skin maintains plumpness feeling radiant and soft. Moisturise daily with face creams and body lotions. We will be spending more time outside so sun protection is vital. SPF 30+ or 50 provides a total block giving full protection from the sun provided you re=apply every 4 hours. Remember - Sunblock is thick and creamy in texture and blocks out harmful UV. Sunscreen, however, screens out the damaging rays but is not a block, therefore you will need to re-apply more often to avoid your skin burning. Choose the times to be outside before 12noon and after 3pm is ideal. Wear a hat, sunglasses, sunblock and cover up as much as you can. ENJOY THE SEASON

15.01.2022 MH Healthy Skin tips: EXFOLIATING THE SKIN A simple routine of exfoliating with the correct exfoliator will result in buffing the skin surface to improve the skin texture by removing any build up of dry lingering skin cells on the outermost layer of skin. You need to know your product - choosing either a scrub or an enzyme peel. A scrub will usually consist of micro beads or rough particles which work by using 'force' to push off dead skin cells. An enzyme gently loosens and... dissolves dead skin cells. Preparation before hand is cleansing with a cleanser and removing with a moist face cloth or facial pads. Your skin should be damp but not wet for scrubs and dry for enzyme peels. NOTE: Don't over do it! Ideally exfoliating should be done once to twice a week in some cases for oily skins possibly more as these skins can tolerate the regular exfoliating. Look out for signs of over doing such as sensitivity, redness, itchiness or even roughness to touch. It's also important not to be too aggressive using scrubs as you can cause micro tears in the skin. A healthy skin routine involving cleansing and exfoliating will result in production of collagen and new skin cells rejuvenate leaving you with a clearer, smoother complexion.
