20.01.2022 Respirators are in short supply. Due to firefighting demand. This morning at Bunnings hardware store, a staff member stated that individuals are buying respira...tors en masse to then send overseas. (Fact: one buyer bought more than a dozen respirators to then send overseas.) Therefore, Australian consumers are missing out on a fundamental respiratory health and safety product as Bunnings struggle to meet local demand. Clearly unfair, since public health safety risk may escalate due to the corona virus outbreak. I have contacted Bunnings, in an attempt to prevent consumers sending respirators overseas by proposing: 1] consumers present an Australian Drivers licence. 2] consumers present a medicare card, to verify the number of dependents that may require a respirator. 3] the supplier then logs the consumer in their system to cap and prevent buying more respirators than what's actually required to meet their individual and number of dependents needs. Similar to the Baby Formula fiasco, steps can be put in place to ensure products are available where there is local demand. To disadvantage local demand because of a few individuals is clearly unfair and potentially a health risk. I rarely use social media, and may not come back to check any comments.
