23.01.2022 HIGH risk of epidemic thunderstorm asthma forecast tomorrow for parts of Victoria. We have high levels of pollen, combining with severe thunderstorm forecasts i...n Mallee, Wimmera, Northern Country and South West districts. If you have asthma or hay fever, plan ahead and have your asthma medication on hand. Stay up-to-date and visit VicEmergency: http://go.vic.gov.au/x8Kfj6

16.01.2022 Restrictions during the Fire Danger Period Once the Fire Danger Period comes into effect, CFA and Victoria Police have a zero-tolerance approach to any fires caused by negligent behaviour. CFA can issue permits for certain circumstances during the FDP. There are very strict conditions attached to these permits and the liability sits with the permit holder to ensure they always act safely. Lighting a fire in the open during Fire Danger Period without a permit is an offence and... can bring a penalty of over $19,000 and/or 12 months imprisonment. Burning off: A written permit is required to burn off grass, undergrowth, weeds or other vegetation during the FDP. This permit may be issued by the Municipal Fire Prevention Officer or the CFA District Office. Please check with your municipality in the first instance. Barbeques and fires for cooking and warmth do not require a permit, but must be lit in properly constructed fireplaces. Equipment & Machinery: The use of an incinerator, chainsaw/lawn mower, welding/grinding equipment and vehicles that come in contact with vegetation and machinery with an internal combustion/heat engine are permitted provided certain conditions are followed. CFA’s Can or Can’t I? (cfa.vic.gov.au/can) guide answers questions about restrictions during Fire Danger Period and on days of Total Fire Ban.

13.01.2022 What is your trigger to leave? Leaving early is the safest option to protect yourself and your family. Leaving early means leaving the area before a fire starts - not when you can see flames or smell smoke. Your trigger to leave is what prompts you to act. You should use the Fire Danger Rating to determine your trigger. On Severe, Extreme or Code Red days you should not be in a high fire risk area. www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/your-bushfire-plan

12.01.2022 Do you know Your Total Fire Ban District? Victoria is divided into nine Fire Districts which are based on council boundaries. Make sure you always know what fire district you are in whether at home or travelling. www.cfa.vic.gov.au/warnings-restric/find-your-fire-district

09.01.2022 Fire Station becomes a Power Station! Through an Australian Government Community Energy & Solar Grant, BUFS Healthier Communities Program and Maiden Gully IGA Community Programs, the Brigade has installed 6.6kW of solar panels and a 5 kW Tesla Powerwall battery. The Power Station provides back up during power outages for lighting, communications and other equipment, which is especially important on extreme fire danger days. Economically, this will mean the end of power bills ...but as the station uses a minimum of energy, it will see a net export of power to the grid. The Brigade is proud to be involved with the Bendigo Sustainability Group in delivering this significant environmental project that will greatly reduce our greenhouse gas footprint. Truly, our Fire Station has become a Power Station! Photo shows BSG’s Colin Lambie with Brigade Captain Peter Dole in front of the battery.

05.01.2022 Do you know the difference between a Total Fire Ban and the Fire Danger Period? There are different restrictions that apply in the open air on days of Total Fire Ban and during the Fire Danger Period. Understand the difference between the two to avoid penalties. Total Fire Ban (TFB) Total Fire Bans are declared by CFA on days when fires are likely to spread rapidly and be difficult to control. Fire Danger Period (FDP) CFA declares Fire Danger Periods by municipalities in ...the country area of Victoria during periods of increased fire risk. www.cfa.vic.gov.au/warnings-restrictions/can See more

02.01.2022 Tomorrow, Sat 28th November 2020 has been declared a day of Total Fire Ban in the Mallee, Wimmera and Northern Country district(s) of Victoria No fires can be lit or allowed to remain alight in the open air from 12.01am on Sat, 28th Nov 2020 until 11.59pm Sat, 28th Nov 2020

02.01.2022 Understanding Warnings and Emergency Information You should never wait to receive an official warning before you leave. Fires can start quickly and threaten homes and lives within minutes. Understand the levels of warnings and don’t expect warnings to be issued in any particular order. The first warning you may get could be an Emergency Warning. https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/warnings-restrict/about-warnings
