25.01.2022 Today we have an event that is a flashback to the pre-parkrun days - the old Super Series that used to be run out of the Runaway Bay Sports Centre. Its 4 different runs between now and November 8. Giving a nice build-up for the GC50 (which will preview soon!). At this stage there will be both a group run and a virtual option. We are winding back the Gold Coast running calendar clock and bringing back a Lead Up Series to the GC50 Run Festival. With a different running enviro...nment upon us, we can’t all be together to race but the main goal remains the same race your heart out across the FOUR races in an attempt to be series champion! Race to practice race skills, and enter the GC50 fully prepared! RACE DATES: July 19 ..... 5km Aug 23 .... 10km Sep 27 .... Half Marathon Nov 8 ..... 10km For further information check out https://m.facebook.com/rungoldcoast/

23.01.2022 It will be a little longer before we can all run/jog/walk together. We can now confirm that parkrun events across the world will be suspended until the end of June. Please note that this represents a minimum time-frame for all parkrun countries and we expect most, if not all, closures to be in place for longer.

22.01.2022 While we’ve missed out on many of our favourite events (including parkrun), with the restrictions easing, a few events have started to pop up in our running calendar. Over the next few days I’ll preview a different local event each day that’s now locked in to the running calendar - subject to government advise. The first event is the Lamington Eco Challenge- Encore edition being run on the weekend of the 8 and 9th of August. The Lamington Eco Challenge is a trail running... event featuring some tough terrain in the Scenic Rim Hinterland in South East Queensland, including four wheel drive tracks, grassy paddocks, bush, rainforest and a couple of hills as well as having to negotiate creeks, gates, cattle grids and the potential wandering livestock. There are 42.2, 21.1 and 8.5km options on both Saturday and Sunday. While you can do any event once, can you back up and do it twice in the one weekend? This is a great trail event to test out how well you’ve maintained your trail running fitness during the COVID lockdown. Get in quickly as the is a one off come back year for this event with capped numbers. More information at Lamington Eco Challenge http://gonyaadventures.com.au/lec

20.01.2022 How was everyone’s (not)parkrun morning? After morning tea I headed down to Main Beach for the first time since March. And quietly, the course looks great! The council has done a lot of work. The path has been tidied up, widened and resurfaced in parts. The roundabout is no more! And the fence has gone! Where did you run and how was it?

19.01.2022 While we are very excited for our parkrun friends in the Northern Territory, it could still be a little while longer for us in Queensland. Queensland (Qld) In addition to name and email addresses, the Queensland Government currently requires a contact phone number for each participant, volunteer, and spectator, along with the time in / out of the venue, which we are unable to support at this time.... I couldn’t imagine the queue at Southbank parkrun with 1000 people trying to fill in an attendance sheet with their phone numbers . Even at Main Beach parkrun, we have around 400 parkrunners - that would be a long enough queue, requiring an endless supply of pens.

18.01.2022 A big shout-out to the parkrun sponsors. How did you spend this morning without your parkrun fix?

17.01.2022 While Main Beach parkrun is still on hold, this looks like an exciting variation of a freedom run we can all do until we can run together on a Saturday morning.

16.01.2022 For all you desperate Garmin users out there (myself included), Garmin is slowly returning to normal!

16.01.2022 A little parkrun spam for your Facebook feed. A compilation video of the first 100 parkruns in Australia. I hope everyone is well at the moment in these challenging times. Stay strong, support each other, and before you know it, we will be able to have coffee after a parkrun.

16.01.2022 We are so close extreme athletes! Queensland (Qld) Queensland Health has increased participant limits this week to 1000. Following extensive consultation with the Sport and Recreation Department we have now formally submitted our COVID-19 Framework to the Chief Health Officer, Dr Jeanette Young.

15.01.2022 parkrun have released the framework for parkrun in a COVID-19 environment. This is the first of many steps before we return. We will get though this together

15.01.2022 We always welcome volunteers. If you’d like to volunteer, you can let us know by any of the following 4 ways - 1) Write your name on the sheet on Saturday mornings 2) Fill in the details in the document https://docs.google.com//1bFAo1C-U1Q2UhknwNhJIH93KdvA/edit 3) Email us at [email protected] or... 4) Facebook message us We’ll happily add you to our roster, and provide all the training! 11.01.2022 Closing out the year for local running events is the Resolution Run. Gearing up for their third year and what is expected to be their biggest event, there is a distance for everyone 4,8 and 12km distances. Run in the afternoon/evening of New Years Eve around a local golf course. And what better why to finish an event then celebrate with fireworks to bring the New Year in. Traditionally there are plenty of activities for all the youngsters as well. Rumour has it that this ye...ar event could be on the move. Keep an eye out on the Facebook page for further details https://www.facebook.com/racvroyalpinesresolutionrun/

11.01.2022 The next local running event to be locked into the calendar is the Gold Coast Running Festival - out of Robina Stadium. Normally held in April to gauge how you are traveling at the start of the running season, it is now locked in for September 6th (Father’s Day) This event is a nice run for the road runners out there. And in distances, it has a nice 5km run for those that are missing their usual weekly 5km fix. The team at The Event Crew have now added the Marathon distance t...o the existing 5, 10 and Half distances (as well as 1 and 2km for the youngsters). Note: the full marathon will have a cut off of about 4 hours to open the roads back up. This will be a great event to test out how well you’ve maintained your road running fitness during the COVID lockdown. 09.01.2022 How exciting for parkrun New Zealand A great step forward for parkrun

09.01.2022 Hello awesome parkrunners. How is everyone holding up? While parkrun is on pause until atleast June (possibly longer), are you keeping up your fitness? Are you sneaking in training runs ready for a new parkrun PB? Are you doing virtual running events? ... Or is the fridge just to close to your new home office? See more

08.01.2022 Many of you know Main Beach regular and Gold Coast runner Stephen Wright. Steve is an Ultra runner who should have been participating in the Adelaide 6 day race this week, but of course due to Covid 19 it was cancelled. As he had taken time from work he thought why not still do it solo, so as he lives in Oxenford he decided to run round Damien Leeding Lake for 6 days to cover as many km as he could. Stephen began his run at 10am 27th Sept & will finish 10am tomorrow morning.... I’ve just heard he has covered 600km. Steve's PB is 604km so with just over 12 hours to go to the finish, he's gonna smash it! Go Steve!

07.01.2022 Work got in the road of yesterday’s post, so we’ve held it over to today. And it’s a great event to! It’s the GC50 (previously known as K2D). Thats right a nice 50km along the Gold Coast Beach paths in early December. This is another classic Gold Coast event, but with a few changes this year. Firstly, it’s now on the first weekend in December (not the second). Surely that’ll be cooler! It’ll actually moves it away from the Cooly markets. Secondly, another course change, it ...now starts at Coolangatta and heads north up to Pirate Park at Palm Beach and back - for two laps for the 50km. (Its grown to big for its starting 1km down to Hedges Ave - does that remind you of any other events ). So the question is can you do 50km? And then can you do it in the humidity of the Gold Coast Summer? If 50km is a little to far, there are 15km and 30km options as well as a relay. Check out GC50 Run Festival https://www.facebook.com/gc50runfestival/ https://www.gc50runfestival.com.au/

05.01.2022 There are many parkrunners currently stuck just one run off a milestone. One them is our very own Lisa Sheldon, who is stranded on 249 runs.

03.01.2022 Happy 9th Anniversary Main Beach parkrun! Tomorrow Main Beach parkrun (and parkrun Australia) celebrate 9 years of parkrun. While we can’t meet up for our run+cake+coffee, we can celebrate with a virtual cake and coffee! We promise once all this is over, however long it takes, we will be back.... We will walk, jog, run & volunteer together and then enjoy our coffee and cake again #loveparkrun

02.01.2022 Traditionally October and November have been quiet months for Gold Coast running events as the triathlon season starts. This has allowed the Coast High 50 to move their postponed event to Saturday, November 28th. Last years event was cancelled due to the bush fires, and this years event has been postponed do to COVID, so I’m sure when it finally gets underway in November, it’s going to be a very popular event. The Wild Earth Coastal High 50 is an iconic ultra trail running... event traversing amazing trails in the World Heritage listed Springbrook and Lamington National Parks in Queensland’s spectacular Gold Coast Hinterland. There’s more to the Gold Coast than its world renowned beaches. Will you be ready? For more information on the Coastal High 50 https://www.coastalhigh.com.au/

02.01.2022 It’s not very often your Event Director is at the top of the Main Beach run leaderboard! (Thanks to the speedy runners for not entering their times ) Remember to record your (not)parkrun runs until we can run together again. Walk, jog or run any 5k route of your choice, on any day, and submit your time via your parkrun profile ... https://www.parkrun.com/signin/ See more

01.01.2022 Wishing our awesome Run Director Wendy Huish a very Happy Birthday. Hopefully we will be able to share some cake soon.
