Dr Paul Harrison, aka Mr Barramundi, was inspired to feed the world with delicious, sustainably produced fish through bes...t practice aquaculture technology. Holding a PhD in aquatic biology and with experience working across Australia and abroad, Paul and his mate decided to set up Mainstream Aquaculture in Werribee in 2001. MainStream Aquaculture barramundi is bred and grown in geothermally heated spring water, free of any industrial or biological pollutants. And the fish is in such high demand, that around 70 million fish are exported per year to 28 countries, where it is served at the world’s best restaurants! So why was Werribee the choice for this business operation? According to Harrison, Werribee has an amazing water source deep underground that is perfect for growing barramundi. It’s also a fast-growing area where you get the best of agriculture and metropolitan life mixing. Paul has recently launched a Farm Gate experience for visitors where people can buy filleted and smoked fish right from the farm.
