20.01.2022 Biggenden a great ride as always. This week I saddled up Rodborough Samira and Georgie saddled up Concerto to head out on a fun fast ride. The weather was a lit...tle warm first leg so steady was the key with a very well placed strapping station on track. Wish we had this on every ride! As always super friendly check point volunteers with a few extra surprises for the riders on track to keep us going. Both horses enjoying themselves as much as we were traveling over the cow tracks watching every step weaving in and out. A super great effort from both horses coming across the line first in 3hrs and 58mins and winning best condition too. Karalee Anderson saddled up Silver Centurion to complete his final novice ride and did with ease. Super happy with this little horse, he is going to make a great endurance horse as he matures. Thanks to Ellie-Rose Bowden for being chief stapper for the weekend with the help of Mark Liesegang, Natalie Liesegang and Maddie Thanks again to all the hard working volunteers and sponsors for our great prizes, another well run ride from a small club. Thanks to our sponsors as always HBA Saddles, Mainstreme Automotive, Performa Ride, WTP Bits and STS Irons New Zealand and amazing photos credit to Sarah Sullivan Photography with more photos to come. 19.01.2022 Cooyar Ride ...... A little late on reporting but we have had a busy week! So last weekend we attended Toowoomba Endurance Horse Riders Association Inc at Cooyar. Silver Centurion and I travelled around to complete his 2nd 80km placing 4th MW. A tough track for a novice horse but he excelled pushing on harder every hill he faced. Very concussive track but some beautiful scenery. Just loved the first leg! Very enjoyable riding new tracks. Thanks to Mark Nimon and Abbeywood Bri...ght Sparks for keeping us company on track and finishing 1st HW and winning BC. Ellie saddled up Burrulga Thunderbolt and Karalee saddled up Concord to complete another 40km training ride. Georgie was not impressed that she couldn’t ride (due to a mishap with a ponies hoof and her knee last week) but did help out with a little strapping. A great weekend had by all. Thanks as always to our sponsors Mainstreme Automotive Performa Ride WTP Bits and STS Irons New Zealand HBA Horse Best Advantage See more

13.01.2022 Charlaville Endurance Ride 2020 A little late but finally time to quickly catch up with our most recent adventures. An epic adventure starting from Dayboro to K...enilworth to collect kids from school camp to Hivesville for the night and a little rest for the horses. Then Hivesville to Charlaville the following day with a total of 896km travelled over the 2 days and I think we found every single bump in the road we could. All horses travelled well enjoying the little breaks for a bite of grass and a drinks along the way. Saturday I saddled up Abbeywood Zsarina to complete 40km and Mark Nimon saddled up Burrulga Angelikh to join us. It was a hot and dry track with lots of water stops along the way and even a cheeky little water fight to cool us all down. Thanks Susan Sutcliffe for your company on track it was a fun filled ride. The following morning we saddled up the same horses and completed a good 80km ride. Both horses finishing very well in a fantastic time of 3hrs 48mins. Mark Placing 1st HW and I placed 3rd MW and both winning Best Condition horse. Very proud of both these horses. Georgie saddled up Abbeywood Flashdance for his 2nd 80km and Ellie-Rose Bowden saddled up Burrulga Thunderbolt for his 1st 80km and both completed finishing equal 5th. Another great effort from these horses, riders and our chief strapper Karalee Anderson. Then the pack up and a long drive home!! Well worth the trip. We look forward to returning next year! Thank you to all the hard working volunteers and sponsors for our great prizes, a big ask of a small club. Perfectly and professionally run. Thanks to our sponsors as always Mainstreme Automotive, HBA Saddles and Shoes, Performa Ride WTP Bits and STS Irons New Zealand and amazing photos credit to Sarah Sullivan Photography. See more

11.01.2022 Getting closer guys. Keep training and don’t forget to say hi to our wonderful sponsors STOP PRESS: We would like to announce HBA Australia as the saddle spons...or for the 2020 Matar Stables Bullio Cup. They will be providing six HBA saddles with stirrups to be awarded to the winners of all six divisions of the 120km events. The HBA Saddle is a very light weight (3kg) saddle designed to optimize the horses movement and disperse the riders weight evenly over the horse. The HBA saddle is designed to be placed back behind the horse's scapular to allow full extension of the forelimb without interference. With the girth points designed to sit the girth further back than traditional saddles it assists in the prevention of rubbing and chafing behind the elbow and girth area. This scientifically designed saddle and fitting method increases the possibility of the saddle to correctly fit a wide variety of horses of different shapes and sizes. To enquire about HBA saddles please visit them on Facebook Virginia Barber

10.01.2022 Another late write up. 2 more to catch up on. ! Sorry I have been super busy! Stirlings by Star Light turned into Stirlings by storm light. My most favourite ...ride of the year. This is what I would call a state championship quality track. Amazing track, well-marked, great underfoot, until the storms hit, then wet and slippery but so much better than rocky and concussive! Challenging and technical. Thank you Stirlings team KK and Ollie for marking such a fun ride. This is what I think endurance is about, it’s not just about riding fast and following the major roads but challenging the horse and rider as a team to negotiate different terrain, under difficult conditions and still be sound and smiling at the end. I saddled up Rodborough Samira and set out to have a fun fast ride. Georgie saddled up Abbeywood Flash Dance and Ellie saddled up Burrulga Thunderbolt to do a steady novice ride. We had checked the radar as many others had and it looked as the storms were going around us so we were happy get ready to set off with no concerns. Wishing the girls luck and instructions as always to look after each other and their horses I rode off with the front of the group as they waited till most had left to gently ride out avoiding the rush. Not long into the ride it started looking like the weather might change and we could get a bit wet Well that was an understatement. First a little rain, then hail, then came the thunder and lightning. Samira being the true champion she is did not even give any of this a consideration. She was on a mission, storm, or no storm. After vetting in on the fist leg the storm became so strong, we were hiding behind the truck for shelter, the wind and rain was so strong it was blowing her rug off. Our top little strapper Rosie stood out in it all holding her rug on her while holding her bucket up so she could keep eating. . At this stage I was starting to worry about the girl as the skies were getting dark and I knew they headed out with no lights. A few frantic phone calls to see if anyone could get lights to them with no luck! Saddling up to head out again feeling sick with worry about the girls being out on novice horses in the storms and with no lights. knowing they were smart and would look after each other it still was still not a nice feeling. I just hoped they were ok. Thankfully as I rode out, they were riding in. Instant relief as I saw them, and I felt good about going out for the final leg and being able to enjoy it! It was another great track . Loved every minute of it. I knew at this stage I was the front runner so was very aware that I would be the first person along the tracks after the storms. Every corner I was on alert for fallen trees, slippery tracks and over hanging branches. Soaking wet not a dry piece of me, random areas starting to rub at this stage from my wet clothes but that is all part of the challenge. Samira was amazing, this was the first fast ride I have done on her with hills. Hills are not her favourite thing. So, we came to an understanding, she prefers to canter steady up as far as she could then go straight to a walk. Usually we train our horses to trot hills, but she told me she prefers not . This is what she wanted, so that is what we did. I got off at the top of every hill and ran to the bottom and off we went again. She was so appreciative and so willing go again as soon as I hoped back on. We had so much fun together, just love this mare! Vetted in with no strapping immediately after unsaddling as it was still very cold and wet, amazing heart rates as always. 1st Place, Line honours and Best Condition. Can not ask for anymore! Georgie and Ellie both continued into the second leg despite many others withdrawing. Both completing the ride in 5th place amongst the few riders to complete. A mammoth task on novice horses in these conditions. A true testament to endurance riders. What an amazing team effort! 3 out of 3 horses and riders around a challenging course. This is what endurance is about! Thanks Sarah Sullivan Photography for the photos. See more

09.01.2022 Looking for a quiet horse for a beginner rider. Must be able to carry 100kg, 15hh+ solid build.... show me what you have!

07.01.2022 A very late update on our adventures at Qld State Championships 2020. Georgie saddled up Concerto, I saddled up Burrulga Angelikha, Charlotte saddled up Rodboro...ugh Samira and Ellie-Rose Bowden saddled up Abbeywood Bright Sparks. All horses looked and felt great coming in off the first leg. A fun second leg and again horses looking great and still feeling fresh as we rode in. Unfortunately Samira stiffened up in the hind end upon cooling down and vetted out. It was a very dry and concussive track that just took it's hold on her. Angel looked and felt great and so did Concerto and Sparks. But at vetting Concerto and Sparks were asked to represent for low gut sounds before heading out on the next leg. So that left Angel and I to head out on our own, leaving Georgie and Ellie back at camp. After another hr break Georgie and Ellie saddled up and headed out on track. Georgie was left a little concerned as to why after 80km Concerto had low gut sounds.. not like her to have this problem especially when eating and drinking ok on track. Georgie only got a few hundred meters out of base and decided to turn around and bring her home. She thought she felt just not right and decided to withdraw. Ellie continued on with Sparks to find some other company to ride with. Angel and I slowed right down on this leg as the track was extremely rocky and concussive. At this stage I was not enjoying the ride at all and was feeling rather dishearten in the whole event. We have so many amazing tracks in the Imbil forestry and this was certainly not one of them. Why are we riding on such concussive track when we don’t need to be?? This is not what endurance is about, this is just plain old nasty! I slowed my pace even more and tried to find the best possible tracks for angel. Despite my efforts about 10km from base Angel told me she was not happy in her hind end. She was just not right. I hopped off and did some emmetts on her and walked her for a few kms. Then jumped back on to see how she was feeling. Unfortunately no better, so with time on my side (as it was only morning at this stage)I thought I would pull up on a side track and tack my saddle off and give her a full treatment and a rest. After this I resaddled and trotted her out, walked for a few more km up and down some hills and then jumped on to see how she was feeling. Much to my disappointment she was no better.. We were close to base by this stage so I decided to just walk her back in. So that left only Ellie out on track with Sparks by herself attempting her 1st 160km. What a legend they both were. After a long tough ride with an hours sleep in the afternoon Ellie and Sparks completed the ride!. Thanks so much to Mark Nimon for letting Ellie ride sparks the little champion he is! 06.01.2022 HBA Horse Shoes ........

06.01.2022 So we have been very busy over the past few months in our mission to find the best saddle for our various horses. After having continuous troubles in keeping our saddles fitting our horses optimally we started our own experiments with the assistances of Emily Morgan-Brown at Elsam Equestrian Solutions . We took our current saddles a Wintec Endurance and a Pandora Endurance Saddle and a HBA saddle and diagnostically tested them to compared the difference in weight distribution...Continue reading
