25.01.2022 Congratulations Kristi on finishing your studies!!

25.01.2022 Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) can be a deadly virus that we pick up quite commonly in Bairnsdale. Its similar to HIV in humans and can cause feline AIDS. Its estimated that between 14-29% of cats are affected in Australia. The virus is spread mostly by cat bites. We now stock a vaccination that helps prevent this disease for cats that are at risk (cats that spend time outside and are at risk of fights with other cats.)

25.01.2022 COVID-19 Clinic Update We want to maintain our full services over the coming weeks but we need your help! Veterinarians are listed as one of the highest risk professions for contracting COVID-19. The clinic has enacted new protocols for limiting the transmission to our team. If your pet needs veterinary attention and: 1. You have been overseas within the last 14 days 2. Youre experiencing symptoms... 3. You are in self isolation Please phone the clinic for advice on how best we can help your pet- dont break your quarantine. We also ask that where possible: - only one person bring your pet into the clinic - phone ahead for any repeat prescription medicine, or other product orders so we can have it ready for you to pick up without you having to wait - use the hand sanitisers located in the foyer See more

22.01.2022 This is one lucky dog! He ate a toothpick that traveled out of the oesophagus, though the lungs and we pulled it out through the skin!!

20.01.2022 We are very excited today about the installation of a new urinalysis machine!! We can now do a full urine analysis with only 5 drops of urine in just a few minutes. We can test for diseases of the bladder and kidneys and a number of metabolic diseases. Bringing in a urine sample if your pet is older or unwell can really help us screen for numerous diseases quickly and cheaply.

19.01.2022 Today was Grants last day at the clinic before retirement after over 3 decades at the clinic. We thank him for all he has done for our clinic and he will be deeply missed by all. We wish him all the best in his retirement! Here are a few parting words from Grant: "After almost 31 years at the Main Street Veterinary Clinic, I have decided to retire and do other things with my life - while I am still young enough to do so. I was very fortunate to have been given the opportun...ity to take on a partnership with Rob Barton & Greg Padgett in 1990, and I have enjoyed a fulfilling career at the MSVC since then. I have been lucky to have worked with such a fantastic team. I can truly say that I have loved my work, and have loved going to work. Not too many people can say that! I want to offer heartfelt thanks to everyone who has entrusted me with the care of their pets and their livestock. I appreciate the responsibility that has been given to me. I have met so many wonderful people during my career - both clients and workmates. Thank you all for enriching my life. Thank you for putting up with my different sense of humour! I will miss many things from my job - but for me it is time for a change. Good luck in the future to Albert, Jade and the rest of the fantastic, caring team at the Vet Clinic. Once again- to Everyone- Thank you" See more

19.01.2022 COVID-19 Clinic Update In an attempt to stay open and to continue providing services, we are making a number of changes to our operations to protect our staff and you, our valued clients. We are sorry for the inconvence this may cause but the following new policies will be phased in shortly. ... **Unwell pets- you wont need to leave your car! - Phone on arrival from carpark - When the vet is available, they will ring you for a full history - The vet will then collect your pet from your car and take into the clinic for examination and treatments if needed. - The vet will then advise you on the plan and ongoing treatment and return your pet. **Repeat medications, food, worming tablets or any other products that you may need, please phone the clinic so we can arrange it to be ready for you to pick up. We will then deliver it out to you in the car park. **Surgery - if your pet is booked in for surgery, please call the clinic from the car park, we will run though some questions with you before coming out to you to collect your pet. **Payments- We would prefer card only payments to avoid handling cash wherever possible. **Please use the hand sanitiser located in the foyer before entering the clinic and remain behind the temporary barrier at reception. **If the clinic becomes full, we might have the door locked, if this is the case, please wait outside until we can let you in. **If you are unwell, please have another person bring your pet in, or phone us for advice. **For vaccinations and other injections, you can enter the clinic as normal, however we ask that only one person presents your pet. Although veterinary clinics will be likely to be listed as an essential service, we want to do what we can to prevent a member of the team becoming infected and potentially shuting down the clinic. Changes to these guildlines may follow, but please be reassured that vets and nurses are well trained to control infectious diseases and we will adapt to any changes to continue providing services to our clients. Thankyou all for your understanding.

19.01.2022 Our team is growing again. Many of you will recognise Karly from Animal Aid who has joined our team part time. Please make her feel welcome as she learns the ropes and continues her veterinary nurse certification.

17.01.2022 Over the last few days we have visited fire affected areas in Clifton Creek, Sarsfield, Buchan, Ensay, and Swifts Creek delivering feed and medications for livestock and pets. We will be dropping off more to Omeo and surrounds in the next few weeks. If you were directly impacted by the fires, and there is anything animal related we can help with, please contact the clinic.

16.01.2022 Further changes Whilst we plan to continue on as usual, we will have to add to our current protocols already posted on our page. - Car park service: please ring from car park for any medications, flea/worm treatments, pet food or any other products and we will bring it out to your car. - As cold and flu season approaches, and due to our staff guidelines not to work when unwell there is a chance your chosen vet might be away. We will still book you in with your preferred ve...t, but please be aware that your chosen vet may be unavailable at any time with short or no notice. Another equally qualified and friendly vet will be able to help you. With reduced staff numbers it may not be the very short wait times everyone is used to, however we will do all we can to keep them as short as possible. Thank-you all for your understanding and your ongoing support! See more

15.01.2022 COVID-19 and Pets There is currently a lot of news about the spread of Coronavirus and there is some misinformation regarding pets. Firstly, there are many types of Coronaviruses that affect pets, and we see a few animals test positive at the clinic each year. However, this is not the same as COVID-19.... The Australian Veterinary Association has reported that a dog in Hong Kong has tested positive on the 27th and 28th of February and again on the 2nd of March. This is the first recorded Human-Animal transmission. This dog is in quarantine and is not showing any signs of the disease. There is NO evidence that dogs play a role in the spread of the disease or that they become sick and only ONE dog has a low-level infection. Advice from The Australian Veterinary Association: Pet owners who may become infected with SARS-COV-2 should take precautionary steps to limit their close contact with their pets and practice appropriate hand hygiene practices before and after handling their pets. If the advice changes as experts learn more about the virus, we will post here on our page.

09.01.2022 Help for Animals and Farmers We are grateful for all of offers of help from the Australian Veterinary Association, World Veterinary Service and all the private vets from Australia and overseas who have offered help with the victims of the fire though our clinic. We are working on as many ways as possible to help those affected including: * Wildlife- The clinic has a Wildlife Fire Releif Fund that is supplying free medications and products for local wildlife carers. Thank-you ...to all those who have already donated. * Pets and Livestock- We are working on ways of supplying medications free of charge to our clients directly affected by the fire. We are also working on free supply of petfood. More details on this in the coming days. We are always here to provide free advice also. * Our farmers need help with rebuilding fences and stock-yards and with supply of feed for their stock. We are looking at local ways to help, but making donations to Need for Feed (needforfeed.org) or Blazeaid (blazeaid.com.au/donations) will be a huge help. See trfm.com.au/articles/relief-and-support/ and helpgippsland.com.au for local fundraisers and support available. See more

We will do our best to minimise disruptions. See more

01.01.2022 COVID UPDATE: From Monday, in line with the government directive to wear a face covering, we will require clients to wear masks whilst in the clinic building. If you are unable to wear a mask for medical reasons, please dont enter the clinic, but call the clinic on your arrival, and we will collect your pet from the car park. Thank you to everyone for your ongoing support with all of the covid-related changes.
