25.01.2022 Hi just wanted to answer some FAQ. 1) How often do my appliances need testing? It depends what type of workplace you have.... Table 4 in AS3760 gives minimum testing intervals, however your workplace health and safety policies may require testing to be done more regularly . 2) We have just got a new appliance, does it need a tag? No, providing it is brand new it only needs tagging at the next scheduled test.? 3) Somebody has brought an appliance from home (ie toaster) does this need a tag as it is not ours? Yes it does. The "responsible person" needs to ensure that it is tagged or removed.from service. 4) Who is the "responsible person" ? AS3760 states the responsible person shall be considered the owner of the premises, or the electrical equipment. 5) I have been advised to have RCD "safety switches" installed in my switchboard, why are these important? RCD's check for an imbalance between the active and neutral conductors. (The current that leaves should be the same as what goes back). If somebody touches a live part through either a faulty appliance or a chaffed cord for example then some current will travel through their body to the ground resulting in an electric shock. An RCD will trip almost instantaneously potentially saving someones life. An ordinary circuit breaker or fuse will not trip or "blow" in this situation
