24.01.2022 The flexible frog Im always fascinated with the flexibility of the back of the foot when I cut slices like this. This was cut horizontal to the ground and I ha...d already cut off a 1/2 a cm slice to get the next slice as flat and accurate as possible. At this level of slicing, the frog is shown in all its glory- well I mean the internal frog- the fatty fibrous part that should contain lots of fibrocartilage strands (per Prof B Bowker). Al though this little video focuses on the frogs elasticity it pretty much shows the flexibility of the whole of the back of the foot. The cartilages at back of the foot also flex. I am editing a video to show the less elastic (less ability to deform) front of the foot, which must be due to the rigid coffin bone, but even that front of foot deforms a little - well the hoof wall does. Also planning to do some slow motion videography on cadaver legs using a press. I want to see how the hoof deforms and by how much. I realise it’s not how a real horse loads a limb but will be a great demonstration of the amount of flexing. 12.01.2022 For today’s we head to back to 1972. . ... , . In a great career, Bay Foyle had 74 starts, for 33 wins, 15 seconds and 9 third placings. He won $80,200, with a career best time of 2:00.6. His career highlight was his 1972 Miracle Mile win at Harold Park amongst his 18 wins recorded at headquarters. He won the 1970 Maitland Inter City Pace, the 1971 Australasian 4YO Championship, then ventured across the ditch to win the 1971 New Zealand FFA (after a good fourth in the New Zealand Cup three days before). A great moment in our harness racing’s rich history. #HarnessRacing #Trots #History #HaroldPark

10.01.2022 When horses drink cold water during winter, their bodies must expend additional calories to warm their tissues back up from the heat loss that is incurred, so t...hey instinctively drink less. This can cause problems when hard feeding or feeding hay, it is recommended to try to encourage your horse to drink more water. The water requirement is higher if the horse is in training, nursing a foal, growing or pregnant. See more

09.01.2022 All my horse friends we have a foster mare available if needed she lost her foal this morning . Feel free to share

09.01.2022 Here is some useful information about the over rugging of horses. Overweight horses struggle more to cope with hotter temperatures and underweight horses will struggle more with colder temperatures. Horses sweat to cool down, but this only works when their sweat comes into contact with the air and/or a breeze (evaporation). Light summer rugs block this natural cooling effect and increase core body temperature. The process of digesting food warms a horse from the inside... out, so you can give them some extra roughage on cold days instead of adding more rugs. On cold and wet days, your horse will struggle more to keep themselves warm when it is also windy. This is why natural shelter or rugs are important on wet and windy days. Old or sick horses may struggle at both ends of their TMZ (ie hotter and colder) and need some assistance and extra care to keep warm and dry on cold days and keep cool on hot days. See more

06.01.2022 Preventing and Treating Heat Stress in Horses What is Heat Stress? Horses possess an effective cooling mechanism, which relies to a large extent on the evaporation of sweat from the skin.
