24.01.2022 If you are concerned about your memory and dementia, or somebody else that you know, Dementia Australia is coordinating two community sessions at Maitland Regional Art Gallery that may be perfect for you to further understand how to support someone living with dementia. Dementia Care Navigator will be running on Thursday 26 November, 10.00am 12.00pm, and focuses on learning about government-funded services available and how to access them. 22.01.2022 Want to help combat littering? Get your free reusable car litter bag from Council to play your part in minimising littering when out and about. Bags can be collected, within business hours, from any of the four Maitland library branches, the Visitor Information Centre or the Council Administration Building from Monday November 30 through to Sunday December 13.

It was a fantastic program that wrapped up on Sunday and included parklets on Swan Street, road artworks, a pedestrian and cycle path as well as a suite of activities like fashion parades, antique valuation days and plenty of live music. 19.01.2022 A brand new playspace has opened and is ready for use at Willow Drive, Metford. Following extensive feedback from local residents, the space was specifically designed to be more inclusive and cater to everyone. It makes for a great spot to sit, play or just relax and is complemented by the community art projects presented along the surrounding fences which were undertaken previously. 18.01.2022 HEAT WARNING This weekend, temperatures across Maitland are forecasted to reach 40+ degrees. Make sure you stay cool and safe, while still adhering to the COVID restrictions in place. Here are some tips for surviving the upcoming hot days: Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water.... Be sun smart and wear sunscreen that’s SPF30 or above, a hat and sunglasses, and seek shade where possible. Don’t exercise in the heat of the day. Seek places that are air conditioned. If you don’t have it at home, find a public place that does. If you plan on going to the beach, remember to be COVID Safe and keep a towel-length distance apart from other people you don’t reside with and keep groups to a minimum. 17.01.2022 Council meeting - Tuesday 23 February

17.01.2022 The site of the future Maitland Administration Centre is to be closed to the public as preliminary archaeological investigations commence from Monday 30 November. A widespread team of archaeologists will be on the site methodically excavating through the soil with the anticipation of possibly unearthing evidence of significant structures and aretfacts including that of a potential flour mill that operated in the early 19th century. The site will be closed for the investigati...on for approximately four weeks however may vary due to the unpredictable nature of the task. Updates will be provided as the work progresses. 08.01.2022 75 years ago this week, the first Mayor of Maitland, Mr. Alexander McDonald, received a telegram proclaiming Maitland as a city. McDonald first came to Maitland as a 17 year old in 1896 and established himself a successful general merchant. After selling his business in 1930, he devoted the rest of his working life to local government having entered in 1921. He was elected the first mayor of Maitland City Council and served for four terms from 1945 to 1956. Throughout his li...fe he was elected to the Hunter District Water Board, was elected President of the NSW branch of the Local Government Association, was instrumental in the introduction of electricity to the Maitland area and was on the board of building societies, theatres and bakeries. Outside of local government, McDonald was a prominent congregational churchman, a good lawn bowls player and very keen supporter of the Maitland Repertory Society, rarely missing an opening night. In 1954, he was awarded the Order of the British Empire for his contribution to local government, then, for his work during the flood of 1955, he was made Commander of the British Empire. 07.01.2022 Don't forget that the final Mattress Muster trial date is this Saturday 27 February from 8.30am until 3.00pm at the Mount Vincent Road Waste Management Facility. Proof of residence in the Maitland Local Government Area is required at the time of drop off. Those participating in the Muster wanting to drop off other waste or recycling will be required to enter the weighbridge again after disposing of the mattresses. 03.01.2022 After an entertaining 90 minutes of football, it was a 3-3 draw between Newcastle Jets and Macarthur FC Thank you to the sold out crowd who turned out to watch and good luck to both clubs for their upcoming A-League seasons.

02.01.2022 The Burton Automotive Hunter Valley Steamfest will celebrate its 35th anniversary in September 2021. Steamfest, which usually runs in April each year, has been postponed to September. The existing COVID-19 restrictions on large outdoor events and uncertainty about when they will be lifted means it is not possible to successfully plan for Steamfest, which involves many months of planning with multiple stakeholders. 01.01.2022 Christmas at the Common is coming back to Morpeth Common on Friday 18 December 2020. 01.01.2022 There’s just one more sleep until the Newcastle Jets return to Maitland and we welcome brand new A-League club Macarthur FC to Maitland No.1 Sportsground. If you are attending tomorrow evening’s match, here are some things you need to know. Gates open at 4.00pm.... Attendees are required to electronically check-in via QR Code and the Services NSW app. General Admission ticket holders are free to bring their picnic rugs or camping chairs, however, no large oversized chairs, reclining chairs, air beds or deck chairs are permitted. You are welcome to bring your own packed food in small quantities Maitland FC will be running the canteen throughout the game where a range of hot food will be available. Sealed non-alcoholic beverages will be permitted in small quantities. Alcohol and non-alcoholic drinks will be available from the canteen. Remember to wear your best red and blue or Jets merchandise.
