24.01.2022 For those of us playing Scouts at home, tonight is going to be "Earth Hour" from 8.30-9.30! The premise is simple. All non-essential power in the house gets turned off to help reduce electricity waste, and discussions are encouraged on power management and why its important to conserve Energy. I encourage you to have this discussion with your families. Especially during these confusing and troubled times.... The Earth hour organisation is also hosting a live show you can tune into here https://www.earthhour.org.au to help spread the word and encourage the discussion amongst your families.
23.01.2022 Happy Founder's Day to all our Scouting friends! In the words of our chief commissioner, "Today is a time to reflect on who we are, where we come from, and what we value as Scouts."
23.01.2022 Registration for this weekend’s JOTI is now open to all Scout members. Follow the link to apply!
22.01.2022 Last weekend, East Maitland Venturer unit sent two patrols seperately into the Blue Mountains to complete a hike they were meant to do in November last year. Last time, they had to cancel because of the unprecedented bushfire season that left half the country scarred black. The teams saw the devastation caused by the fires, but also saw the new growth coming back, showing the power and resiliency of nature!... Its important to remember that from every adversity, there are beautiful stories, and people are driven to become great! "Life would pall if it were all sugar; salt is bitter if taken by itself; but when tasted as part of the dish, it savours the meat. Difficulties are the salt of life." Robert Baden-Powell
20.01.2022 Some of our Joeys, Cubs, and Scouts got out in our local community today and put in a massive effort for Clean Up Australia Day.
18.01.2022 Congratulations to Tracy Walters - 'Ningaui' - on being awarded a Special Service Award! This is awarded to Young Adult Members, Adult Members and Supporters for the successful support, development or management of a Section or Formation, or for an intense contribution over a period of at least 12 months to the success of a major event or major activity. Tracy is an integral part of our Scout Group, and we would like to extend a special 'thank you' for all the work she does for our youngest members. Congratulations Ningaui!
18.01.2022 Our Scout and Venturer Units returned to face to face scouting for the term with a bonfire night. Everyone brought along a small damper, prepared at home, to cook in the hot coals. It’s good to be back!!
17.01.2022 East Maitland Scout Group, with full support from our group council, has made the hard decision to cede from the Hunter & Coastal region, and join Scouts Canada. Despite our Geographical differences, we've felt for a long time that our similarities in regards to program ideals and leadership qualities are better suited than other, more local regions. We also believe that it's important for us to be challenged to grow, and the 14,000km gap between us seems ripe for the picking for new member growth and adventures. We thank Hunter & Coastal Region Scouts for their help over the past few years and wish them the best of luck in the future.
15.01.2022 For any Venturers who are keen for OzVenture.
15.01.2022 It’s not just our Scouts who have advancement ceremonies. A few weeks ago some representatives from the Scout Unit Council escorted two linking Cubs from their last Cub meeting via canoe!

13.01.2022 Together, but apart our members through all sections commemorate our ANZACs.
13.01.2022 Each year Scout Groups across the State have proudly participated in local ANZAC Day ceremonies and parades. Current restrictions around gatherings mean we are ...unable to do this in 2020. This year we’re inviting members from all Groups and all Sections to participate in our Camp@Home ANZAC 2020 Experience. To register for the event visit: https://bit.ly/snswanzacexperience Set up your own ANZAC campsite at home, enjoy camp activities and participate in the ANZAC Day end of your driveway Vigil on the morning of 25 April. You can also complete challenges to earn the 2020 Their Service, Our Heritage badge and the Camp@Home ANZAC Experience 2020 badge. ANZAC Day is an important annual event and a timely opportunity to bring together our Scouting community to commemorate, show respect and gain a deeper understanding about ANZAC Day and those who have served and currently serve Australia.
11.01.2022 Our Scout section have been busy preparing for at home ANZAC commemorations. Check out a sample of their beautiful creations!
10.01.2022 Last Tuesday saw our Scout group welcome 2 new champions in Riley Ashton & Charles Russell. The two recieved their Grey wolf award in the Cub Section, showing a dedication to leadership, personal growth, and service. This was awarded by District Cub Leader John Gibson. To achieve this award, the youth had to do a special project each. Charles made a rolling Flag stand out of a tree trunk. It has enough stands to support all our section flags and the Australian flag. He even c...overed it in resin so it could be used in outdoors ceremonies. Riley made 2 big rolling versions of Skee-ball called "Baloo Ball" (nice symbolic Framework). These are transportable via trailer and will be showcased at our Annual Report Presentation, and at other District events over the next year. Both youth, who were joint Unit leaders in the Cub section, are now linking into Scouts. Their input and leadership will be sorely missed in Cubs. B-R-A-V-O-O-O to you
09.01.2022 Todays outing for the Joey Mob was a trip to the Walka Water works in Maitland. The Joeys (the fun-loving kind) frollicked with the wildlife including Magpies, Rabbits, Kangaroos and Joeys (the hoppy kind) and explored the gardens as a Unit. We were given a list of Colours in the way of paint sample cards to try to match the colours with random things we found around the grounds. The Joeys loved finding new things to show off to each other and trying to find where these objec...ts fit in the Colour Palette provided. Joeys meet on Tuesdays from 5-6 PM. Contact the page for more information!
09.01.2022 Did you know our Scout Hall has a Street Library? It’s located on the outside of the hall, so you can drop by any time to exchange a book.
08.01.2022 Hello all, I would like to invite you to our newly formatted Annual Report Presentation. Our original plan was to attend the hall and have demonstrations of Scouting for all to enjoy, however these are difficult times, and it is our responsibility as members of our community to keep everyone safe. As such, I welcome you to join us during our ARP in an online format called "ZOOM". Zoom is a fantastic program that we've used successfully in the past few days to host meetings fo...r those of us who couldn't make it to General meetings due to self-isolation or quarantine measures. It allows for near lossless video communication, that we can record so that we have a permanent record of the meeting. If you would like to join us for our Annual Report Presentation, please log onto Zoom (with your microphone muted, and your webcam off) at 4.30 by following this link Topic: East Maitland Scouts Annual Report Presentation Time: Mar 21, 2020 04:30 PM Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney Join Zoom Meeting https://zoom.us/j/965158334 Meeting ID: 965 158 334 An email has been forwarded to all members with a copy of the agenda for todays meeting, alongside the minutes of the previous ARP. I look forward to seeing many of you online Yours in Scouting
07.01.2022 We might not be at Dragonskin or tackling an adventurous hike in the Watagans. We might have missed fun camps and activities, even nights at the hall, but we’re thankful that we can all keep in touch while staying safe at home. Happy Easter, everyone! Enjoy the day with your family.
07.01.2022 As we come to the end of National Volunteers Week I'd like to take a moment to thank the exceptional adults and youth members who volunteer in our group! ALL of the people involved in our group give up their time, energy and resources to make our group amazing. Volunteering in our group takes on many different forms. We have leaders, youth helpers, members of our parent committee, fundraising gurus, people who look after our assets - the list goes on. Thank you to everyone who gives so much to benefit our youth!
07.01.2022 In 1973, the Scouting movement in Australia allowed Women to join us in our adventures, and became richer for the experience. We could not hope to be a successful youth movement without the guidance of inspirational women. They're mothers, they're sisters, they're friends, they're the future. This International Womens day, We celebrate the monumental efforts of our women, both youth and adults, as they stand side by side with us in creating a better world.
07.01.2022 Congratulations to all who participated in the virtual 'Camp@Home' for Anzac Day 2020. We are so proud to announce we had 43 of our group members attend the camp. These Joeys, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers proved that they are committed, despite restrictions, to showing respect to those who have served in the past or are currently serving, and for honouring those who lost their lives.
07.01.2022 Last Tuesday our Cub Section saw another youth member added to the list of names on our honour wall. Connor recieved his Grey Wolf Award, showing a dedication to leadership, personal growth, and service. To achieve this award, the youth have to complete a half day hike and undertake a special project. Connor made a street library that sits proudly on the side of our hall. This is a book exchange resource for members of the local community and is already being well used.... ONE, TWO, THREE, WOLF!
06.01.2022 Scouts is a youth led, adult supported movement. That means as they progress through the sections the youth take on more leadership and ownership of their scouting unit. Wednesday evening saw a completely youth led advancement ceremony. The Scout moving onto the Venturer Unit had the idea. The Venturer and Scout Councils made it happen. Here’s a short clip of their mock court in action.
05.01.2022 "Today we honour the Indigenous peoples of this land, the oldest continuing cultures in human history. We reflect on their past mistreatment. We reflect in particular on the mistreatment of those who were Stolen Generations - this blemished chapter in our nation's history" ... 01.01.2022 A Scout smiles and whistles under all circumstances, but when things add up over time, it can all get a bit overwhelming. Here are some ways you can take care of yourself.
01.01.2022 This weekend one of our older scouts planned and ran a virtual camp. Although we couldn’t physically be together the scouts enjoyed participating in challenges, campfire, and coming together over video chat.
