05.01.2022 Are you looking at growing Maize this season for silage?
04.01.2022 Harvesting of dryland maize took place on Graham and Melissa Clay's property yesterday. It is the first time that maize has been grown on their organic farm at ...Camperdown. The crop will be mixed with grass silage and fed to the 250-strong milking herd. Prior to planting, the 9ha paddock received 12t/ha of composted chicken manure. More information on organic fertiliser can be found here: https://biolink4plants.com.au The paddock yielded 84 tonnes of dry matter in total, or 9.3t/ha. It will be resown with a cereal and clover mix which will then be made into silage. A new organic Discussion Group has recently been established in our region. If you are interested in joining the group or finding out more information, please call 5557 1000 or email [email protected].
02.01.2022 19.5 tonne crop takes out 2018 maize competition A maize crop grown on the property Hamily P/L, of Cooma, in northern Victoria, has taken out the irrigated section of the National Maize Competition. Ian and Mary Hamono grew a crop of Pioneer hybrid P1467 which was yield tested at 19.54 tonnes per hectare. The highest yielding crop in 2017 was 18.36 tonnes per hectare. The winning crop was planted on 23 October 2017 and harvested on 19 April 2018, with just 6.0 megalitres per hectare of water applied via Netafim Sub-surface drip through the summer. This resulted in a Water Use Efficiency (WUE) of 3.26 tonnes per ML of water.
