22.01.2022 Today is International Day of the Midwife. WHO named 2020 the year of the nurse and midwife. Never have I felt so blessed to be a midwife and work alongside so many spectacular people. As a midwife I believe in empowering women and facilitating them to get good quality education in preparation for their journey to motherhood. As a woman and mother I am grateful for my midwife who helped me through my journey xxx
19.01.2022 My Story BIRTH ESSENCE BY MAJA BATISTAFRIDAY, APRIL 17, 2020 Originally from Germany, I completed my midwifery training there back in 2005. I have fond memories of travelling in the snow on my motorbike to complete my practical hours as a midwifery student, freezing cold but alive with excitement and fear!! I then worked as a community midwife in Frankfurt which was great fun, I used a pushbike as my main form of transport and would cycle around the city looking after women ...in their homes. Striving to learn more about midwifery - and the world, I found myself living in Ireland and working in huge maternity hospital in Dublin, so unbelievably different from the midwifery I had grown up in but I am so grateful for the skills I learnt and the amazing women I met along the way. A year of midwifery in the beautiful Ireland and I left in search of my final home, Australia. Since emigrating here on 2009, I have worked in large hospitals as well as models of continuity of care and found my love in the Birth Centre. Working in a birth centre for me was rewarding, exciting and instinctive and I grew so much through my 7 years working there with a small group of outstanding clinicians and motivated empowered women. Whilst working in this space, I completed my yoga teacher training and prenatal yoga certificates, these two practices go hand in hand together and it was a natural combination for me. Then came Calmbirth. What a beautiful combination of science and spirit, I have been teaching Calmbirth now for 4 years and it continues to give me energy and insights into body, mind and the miracle that is labour, birth and parenting. I’m now working in Newcastle as a midwife and Calmbirth educator, we escaped the big smoke to try something a little quieter and so far so good. Our son and Labradoodle love the beaches and the open spaces to run around, I look forward to seeing you in Newy or online :)

She has worked as a community midwife in Frankfurt, Germany, and as a hospital based midwife in Dublin. She now works as a midwife in Sydney in a Birth Centre and has been a Calmbirth Educator since 2017. She teaches the Calmbirth program at the NSPH and soon will also be teaching the Calmbirth program at the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle. I have worked in a variety of midwifery settings throughout my 15 years in the profession of midwifery and I feel privileged to be a part of midwifery, as well as being a part of a couples pregnancy and birthing journey to becoming parents. I have been teaching Parent Education classes for the past 7 years, including Pregnancy Yoga. I am extremely passionate about quality education and with my extensive midwifery practice and experience I see first hand the positive outcomes and effect the Calmbirth program has on couples in a multitude of situations. "Calmbirth is amazing. What I loved the most was the takeaways the Calmbirth breathing techniques and meditation. On the day - Maja's calm and nurturing nature. Thank you Maja, you made me believe that I could do it and I did it. Without you, I am not sure I would have been able to or that my husband would have been able to support me in exactly the way I needed him to. I have Calmbirth to thank. I owe everything to Maja and to Calmbirth. I would have ended up with a very different birth story without it."
