Earlier this year we spoke to Gerald Bain-King, who was about to retire aftera career as a principal and vice-principal in the Catholic school system. Geralds time in education has given him tremendous insights into the types of issues that affect families. In this podcast he gives advice on how parents can help their children get the best from their time at school and talks about the issues affecting students and their families today.

14.01.2022 "One of the barriers to boys developing healthy self-esteem is that there are no longer clearly defined male and female roles which is sometimes compounded by a lack of male role models due to family breakdown. " This week's CLASSIC ARTICLE looks at why young boys are falling behind educationally during adolescence and what can be done to create positive masculine identity in boys.

10.01.2022 I feel blessed that I have my son to love on the earth. Very blessed that Jesus is being ‘mum’ to my babies in heaven. I find the words of another song God gave me around that time to be true, ‘Jesus can heal your life’. This week’s article by singer/songwriter Deborah Robertson concerns the loss of her unborn child and how the power of music was her way of moving through her grief and towards healing.

10.01.2022 Today is the International Day of Older Persons. It is the unfortunate truth that Elderly Persons are the most vulnerable to COVID. It has been heartwarming to see all Australian's taking precautions and helping flatten the curve, not necessarily for their benefit but for the sake of the vulnerable. Nothing in life is perfect, and sometimes you can only choose between bad and worse options. When countries or states try to eradicate COVID it is a long and isolating course they... have charted. The sad truth is the group the feels this isolation most is the aged care residents we are hoping to protect. Most of these residents are not familiar with the technologies we use to 'keep us together' and many find them distressing. To them, there is no substitute for human touch, care, and affection. Children of aged care residents are noticing a decline in health. If we have heard stories of what these people have had to endure since march and are horrified by their living conditions. It is no surprise that in a recent Roy Morgan Poll the 65+ demographic is consistently the most opposed to eradication style lockdown. When weighing up the values of safety and quality of life we have clearly judged safety as the higher. I am not so comfortable that this is the case, and I can't help but think we have gravely let down our elderly, by isolating them for the staff and their families in a time where they should be overwhelmed with love. The conversation around aged care homes and the quality of care that is provided to each resident has to go on for many years after the COVID pandemic. I sincerely hope we use this opportunity as a society to hold politicians and providers to account for their work in this field. What is your perspective on this issue? When it comes to Aged Care residents should we count the days, or count the days that matter?

06.01.2022 Ghandi said Non-Violence is the greatest force at the disposal of mankind. It is mightier than the mightiest weapon of destruction devised by the ingenuity of man. On international day of Non-Violence we remember the lessons Ghandi taught through his life, just as we remember the person who taught him what he knew, Leo Tolstoy.
