25.01.2022 Yoga is a dance between control and surrender - between pushing and letting go - and when to push and when to let go becomes part of the creative process, part of an open-ended exploration of your well-being. ~ Joel Kramer #letgo #makaiyogacollective #oceangroveyoga #oceangrovecommunity

15.01.2022 http:// The Art of Self Compassion This week we thread the theme of Self Compassion through our practice on the mat, exploring how this might translate off the mat. Having compassion for oneself is no different than having compassion for others ~ so explore what the experience of compassion feels like.... The word compassion literally means to suffer with and the concept of having compassion is to be moved by the suffering of others so that your heart responds to their pain ~ you may feel warmth, caring, understanding, the desire to help. There is an underlying feeling of kindness towards others when they fail or make mistakes, rather than casting judgement. What if you shone this same light on you? Can you feel the same compassion for self? When you feel compassion for another, it means you realise that suffering, failure and imperfection is part of the shared human experience. Self compassion involves acting the same way towards yourself when you are having a difficult time, failure or notice something you don’t like about yourself. Instead of ignoring your pain, ask yourself ‘how can I comfort and care for myself in this moment?’ Whether it’s in your practice on the mat, or moving through your day: ~ become aware of your self talk. ~ honour and accept your humanness, mistakes & all. ~ accept that it’s ok not to be ok. ~ reach out to others when you need. ~ listen to your inner wisdom & treat yourself with kindness. Change in ways that allow you to be more healthy and happy, but do so because you care about yourself, not because you are unacceptable as you are. inspired by Dr. Kristin Neff

09.01.2022 #repost @hightide_yogamovement ON BALANCE Finding our centre-point, the hub of the wheel, has been central in riding the wave of the COVID year. For most of us, it has been a constant readjusting of the gauge to again find that calm within the storm of news and regulation, stagnancy and change.... Balance is both a physiological state- we can balance the sympathetic and parasympathetic action of the autonomic nervous system- and also a metal state- a balance between relaxation and deliberate intentionality. The good news is that there is a part within us that is in balance all of the time. But it is in the speed and complexity of everyday life that we sometimes lose sight of this equilibrium. And here is where the practice comes in- the path of yoga allows us to cultivate the awareness we need to reconnect to this ever-present part of ourselves. It is asana centred at the navel, our seat of equilibrium; balancing the length of your inhalation and exhalation; conscious collection of prana at the abdomen. At the @makaiyogacollective studio this week the thread between classes is balance. Sure you can think of balance as how long can you stand in tree pose, but you can also take a deeper journey into balance within the emotional, physical, mental and spiritual layers of your life. We can’t pause the rotation of the Earth, the next deadline, the rush to make school lunches or the finite nature of life, but with practice and intention we can find a centre-point of calm in the midst of the activity we find ourselves in @andybbearphotography fun in the sun! #oceangroveyoga #equilibrium #centrepoint #hightideyoga #makaiyogacollective

05.01.2022 http:// Letting Go It’s hard to talk about ‘letting go’ without channeling a bit of Elsa from Frozen. So if you can’t hold it back anymore and need to belt out some tunes to get into the swing of things this week, go ahead. We won’t judge. If you’ve been to any number of yoga classes no doubt you will at some stage have heard the phrase let go.... What a strange thing to suggest do you want me to let go of the twisted balancing pose I just painstakingly forced myself into or the wind that I’ve been holding in for the last 30 min? Letting go doesn’t necessarily mean ‘relax’ or physically let go of something. It could be referring to a fear that’s been holding you back, or a natural resistance to an experience or change. Letting go might not mean letting go at all, but rather inviting in an experience - be it pleasant or challenging. The thing to know about letting go is that it’s not instantaneous, it will most likely require a shift on many levels and it’s probably not going to be easy. It’s a process, a journey. But then, so is yoga. So this week step on the mat with us and explore what it might mean for you to let go. - let go of expectation - let go of judgement - let go of trying and just experience - let go of seriousness and enjoy - let go of the excess - let go of past & future and be present The beauty is there’s no right or wrong - there’s only a journey. #makaiyogacollective #oceangroveyoga #yogaoceangrove #bellarineyoga #letgo
