24.01.2022 Simply pick up and play, what’s not to like. As a teacher and a parent ease, fun and engagement are what we’re looking for; thats what drives us here at Make Play Create. What do you look for in a play experience???

23.01.2022 Just in case you were wondering...

23.01.2022 We’ve upgraded to next! We’ve been using first/then with our little man for quite a while now - since before he was 1 - so much so he tries it on us now muuuum first park They are some pretty fantastic words at work here.... If you aren’t using these words then all I can say is, DO IT!! As adults we often use way too many words and over explain transitions and changes throughout the day which often leads into the odd tantrum. Toddlers and preschoolers can deal with 2 simple instructions at a time and with a visual cue this can be stretched to 3. It’s such a simple strategy with huge benefits. We’ve put it into a visual strategy as you can see which has been a game changer. Sometimes we put on what we as the adults are doing e.g. dishwasher. Most of the day it is about his movements first: toilet. then: get dressed. next: play. You can see how we changed this up already this morning by flicking right. You don’t need a visual cue to start though we were using first/then language for ages without it. Give us a if you’re going to give first/then a go. We’d love to know when you’ve tried it to let us know how it went. @ Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

23.01.2022 We used our Craft World set today for a simple invitation to play and craft! Flick through the pics to see how it evolved. It was super simple yet super effective involving sensory play, colour identification, pre writing skills of holding the page to use the glue brush, and of course a creative eye!... What are you guys up to on this fine Monday? @ Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

19.01.2022 Feeling grateful and blessed to be a mum. I’ve been treated like a queen this morning with a sleep in, cooked breakfast, some presents, a home made card and topped the morning off with a game of hide and seek. Doesn’t get much better than that.

17.01.2022 How many books did you read over breakfast this morning?? As busy as our boy is he loves to read, read and read some more! This is LITERALLY the pile of books we read over breakfast.... Reading supports language development. Babies and children need to hear language before they can speak it. Picture story books are so important because it offers them a visual and audio representation of the language they are learning. Join us for story time Tuesdays and Fridays at 10:45 am AEST. You can take a 10 minute break and your child can enjoy a good book!

16.01.2022 Morning bake. Carb loading. Just building our winter coat

15.01.2022 We were (were being the operative word: suns gone #Melbourneweather ) enjoying the sun, all of us with a cookbook in hand. Mr 2 choosing which cake he might have for his birthday (which is in December). I’m getting snowman vibes. He then turned his Post-it notes into a train track, off he popped to get a train and then played trains on the book It never gets old watching him create his own play experience.... We modeled reading, kept him interested with the type of book and Post-it notes and he made it something even better - we would never have thought of that. @ Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

12.01.2022 Toy rotation is key to learning through play at home. We’ve put together a few frequently asked questions and answers them. Save this post to come back to at a later date when you’re ready to rotate If you’re a rotator from way back (or just recently) give us a @ Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

11.01.2022 If this little guys has anything to do with it looks like we’re turning our backyard into a nature reserve! We thought we were out to enjoy the sunshine. He had other ideas. Arborist in the making. His collection game has increased from twigs and sticks to small branches I suppose we’ll just use them for his minibeast world

07.01.2022 Such a beautiful day to be making fresh pasta. Save this post for a super simple, always successful recipe. Nothing better than getting your hands dirty and getting yourself into some messy sensory play, even in the form of cooking.... We use a 1:1 ratio. Ingredients: 1 cup flour 1 large egg Method: -Mix together, but don’t over mix it. When we have little time we use a mixmaster and beat until the dough comes together, then knead quickly on the bench. *When we have more time we mix and knead all on the bench-a lot messier* -Wrap in cling wrap and let sit for at least (can sit longer) for 30 minutes in the fridge. -Roll out in a pasta maker or by hand with a rolling pin. -Cook in boiling water for roughly 3 minutes. Serves 4. We made fettuccine and lasagne sheets. Storage: For left over, uncooked pasta we curled them into birds nests and froze them (in a container). Lasagne sheets we dried over a broom handle and once dried they can be left in the cupboard for months (in a zip lock bag or container).

06.01.2022 We’re really noticing a difference in our little mans play of late. It’s really turned into a lot of imaginative play where he’s talking to his toys, creating different scenarios and he’s even exploring positional language (in, under, on). Oh and A LOT of and fart talk Tell me our sons not the only one obsessed with poo?!?... I set this one up, I didn’t use all the pieces from the set either (swipe right to see the animals left over, plus the flashcards are not in use today) and keep going right for the aerial view! @ Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

05.01.2022 .Story Time for everyone. Join us for story time - tomorrow (& every Tuesday & Friday) at 10:45 am AEST. It’s sea life world week for us so Mr 2 and I have chosen to read ‘Magic Beach’ by Alison Lester.... If you’ve got this book bring it along and you can read along with me! It’s one of our favourite books, can’t wait to share it with you

04.01.2022 Join us for Story Time. Being read to gets the brain connections firing! When looking and listening to a book we are connecting the words we are hearing with the pictures we are seeing; developing our language. We use our experiences to develop our comprehension; our understanding of what’s happening.... Tuesdays and Fridays 10:45 AEST

04.01.2022 Against my best judgement I setup a little paint sesh for Mr 2 at 5:10 pm on a Saturday afternoon he was adamant that he was going to paint, that he’d love it, that he’d do it for ages. It ended with me painting and the toddler playing elsewhere, not painting Surely I’m not alone, what’s a parenting lesson you’ve learnt the hard way recently?

01.01.2022 Here’s our sea life world all setup and ready to play in a serving tray! Why do we love small world play? All the resources are different in terms of shapes, sizes, textures & purposes. This means for the kids engaging with the small world they are required to do some thinking and problem solving. For instance in the sea life world the shells might be bigger than the sharks, so how do they interact? A child will problem solve this through play using their imagination, creativ...ity and innovation, working through this scenario. For our son the shell became a boat. @ Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

01.01.2022 Kmart ‘Hack’ Here it is our $8 Kmart ‘hack’ - the cat scratcher 4WD -... It’s 1 piece of cardboard that you fold into place to make the 4WD. Mr 2 has been in and out of it all day. LOVING it! He found himself a steering wheel and has been taking passengers of the LEGO variety! So much fun. @ Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
