19.01.2022 Ankle sprains When you roll your ankle you can damage the ligaments that support and stabilise your ankle. The most common type of ankle sprain involves the tearing of the lateral ligaments on the outer side of your ankle. The severity of these injuries can vary greatly, so can your recovery time. We classify these injuries in Grades. Grade 1 - overstretching and minor tearing of your ligaments, Grade 2 - moderate partial tearing, Grade 3 - complete ligament tear.... If you are experiencing significant pain, ankle stiffness or having difficulty weight bearing or walking then it is recommended to have your injury assessed to rule out a fracture or other serious pathology, attain an accurate diagnosis and recovery plan. Early treatment would focus on managing pain and swelling and restoring range of movement (it’s very common to stiffen in your ankle post injury) with your end goal to return to your pre-injury mobility, or better. The following video demonstrates ankle strapping for a lateral ligament strain injury. Note: May not be suitable for all ankle injuries. For use as a guide only. Injury assessment before strapping is recommended.

Often a disc bulge will be present on a scan, but not necessarily the source of our back pain.
