23.01.2022 Throwing back, waaaay back to issue 11 with Spring Blossoms by Melissa Dunworth Sew BitterSweet Designs. Quilts dont need to be big to make a big impact as this beauty showcases perfectly. The use of bold, high contrast colours and a strong geometrical design with secondary patterns emerging means this small quilt packs a huge punch. The quilt in the magazine is 36 x 36" but this block makes it easy to scale up! Foundation paper piecing fun with this block.

15.01.2022 Catalyst Heather Black Quiltachusetts was published on Friday in issue 36. Stripes can add energy to a design and much like an additive can help a chemical reaction along, adding red to these stripes really amps up the energy: a catalyst. This much movement and energy can make a quilt look chaotic but limiting the number of different blocks to four and repeating a layout keeps it under control. : Heather used Painters Palette Solids by Paintbrush Studio, a division of Fabri-Quilt, Inc. in Scarlet, Vintage Red, Claret, Christmas Red, Cadet, Limelight, Citrus Yellow, Smoke, Pale Silver, Rice Paper and Linen. You can use fabrics from your stash for a scrappy look, but keep to tone on tones that clearly read as a particular colour.

They make quilts for any child experiencing trauma through serious illness, disability or circumstance. Theyve given out over 550 quilts so far and hope to continue for many years to come. Their patron Archie Armitt was diagnosed with Mitochondrial Disease just six weeks before his death at age 8 years and we make these quilts to keep his memory alive, They have ind...ividuals and groups all over Australia contributing quilts. There is no cost for these quilts as the group is financially supported by Archies extended family and friends. So if you have some time and resources available check out their Facebook group. 11.01.2022 Sometimes fabrics are so beautiful that they demand to be showcased like the cameo ladies in Tula Pink’s De La Luna collection. 11.01.2022 A soothing combination of complementary colours in a mix of prints and solids makes for a vibrant design, Copper Forest is by Amanda McCabe JamesandGracie and is in our latest issue, 36! The clever use of half square triangles and quarter half square triangles creates a braid pattern that is simpler to construct than it appears. : Amanda used fabrics supplied by Figo Fabrics from their Lucky Charms and ColorWorks Solids collections. She cut her pieces from fat eighths but you could also use scraps they need to be at least 5 square. #quiltmagazine #pdfquiltpattern #quilts

"Weve got our stashes organised and curated, ready to work hard for us. So you knew we were going to get to this topic eventually using the precious fabrics. Chances are youve got something special in the stash that youve hesitated to use because it was too special. Its like that old school of thought of the best china or clothing that never ...gets used because its never quite a special enough occasion for them." Read the full article in issue 35 subscribers! 03.01.2022 Velda Freckled Fox Quiltery writes for our Just Sew feature in issue 35, Great Makes Using Simple Shapes. "While Im writing this, we are right in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic. I live in Canadas smallest province and we have been lucky to have low numbers of cases. But regardless of where you live, Im betting every single one of you will agree that in stressful times, its more important than ever to find things to do to console your spirit and allievate your an...xiety. For me, there is nothing quite as soothing as heading into my studio to sew. In times like these, I dont want to mess up my fragile mo-jo with quilt math or templates, or specialty rulers so my ideal go-to project lately is something beautifully basic." Grab issue 35 now and you can make Veldas Skull Squared quilt pictured here! Check out our fabulous subscription offers at the link and *cough the all-access pass is RIDICULOUS value, seriously it is. https://www.makemodern.com.au/subscribe
03.01.2022 Todays share is from our latest issue published on Friday and is our cover quilt. Fade to Fall by Sarah Hunter - Lazy Cozy Quilts. A deliciously warm palette of solids, set in a colour wash gradation and teamed with crisp white, make a simple design feel very modern. Setting the design on point also gives an edgier finish. Fabric Note: Sarah used nine colours of Art Gallery Fabrics PURE Solids across the eleven rows, utilising the colour wheel as her guide to create a colour wash effect. If you choose to use prints, you will find that small scale nondirectional prints work best.
02.01.2022 Hey there maker! Have you turned your hand to mask making since the pandemic hit? Sewing machine sales have soared and the flipside to this is a new or renewed interest in sewing and quilting, which is one positive to come out of the virus impact.
